So, I have an AMC 904 and it has a small metal fluid line coming out of the rear of the casing heading up towards the engine compartment. I plan on picking up an AMC 727 tomorrow from a guy two towns over and the pictures show it has the same metal line. These lines are not the typical cooling lines so what the heck is it??? I'm hoping I can block it off and ignore it.

I posted this question on the AMC forum and gotten a few ideas but nothing solid so let's see if the Mopart forum is smarted than the AMC forum grin

Looks like cooler lines - just routed to the passenger side.

Post a pic from the driver side. I never saw a AMC installation before but thats my guess.

I wouldn't think a vent would come from the bottom of the trans (below fluid level).

Not one of the two cooler lines. They are present on the left side of both transmissions.

Maybe a closeup to the line fitting under the extension.

Only thing in the extension is the governor port - not sure why there would be a line to it.

I saw that pic earlier - was hoping for one a little closer and a better angle.

But, it looks like something attached to the governor pressure tap. Never seen anything like it before.

Unless it's been damaged, the formed bend on the line does not look like any factory radius??

Definitely looks like governor pressure line but what could they be using that for? Somehow tied in to cruise control or the speed governor on a truck?

The best guess over at the AMC forum is that it's part of the TCS (transmission Controlled Spark). That line goes up to a switch/solenoid that electrically controls something to do with spark advance I believe.

I'm just trying to understand if I can remove the line and plug for my use.

Kunkel, where are you at?

If it’s attached to the governor port just plug it.

I spoke with my Mopar Transmission builder . He had knowledge of this line . He said it ran up to something that had to do with retarding timing momentarily coordinating the shift with governor pressure for a smoother shift . He said it only came on a couple models like a Matador . He was a lot more detailed on his explanation , but I could only get a grasp of the basics , as it was a quick phone conversation . He said to put plug/cap at the transmission and Forget about it !

Perhaps share that information/discovery over on your AMC forum - if you haven't done so already.
