Yeah, several options to minimize that situation.

Looks like a pretty flat area to "lose" brakes. And if he'd lost his air supply, if everything was working properly; the whole system should've "dynamited" and basically locked the whole system up. Betcha the driver was a "new" American; inexperienced and panicked.

At one point he/she was on the sidewalk still hauling butt. I would have tried all of the things you mentioned AND taken out that row of trees, parked cars that most likely didn't have anyone inside them or anything that would slowed or stopped me that wouldn't have hurt or killed someone. Probably dropped their crack pipe.

I'm thinking he he missed a gear, once you have too much speed it's very hard to get it back in gear, too many RPMs. if you turn the key off you lose steering. Medical issue? Mechanical failure,I didn't see any brake smoke.

Yeah, if you lose air the system locks up, that is what an S-Cam is designed for! Only way to lose brakes on a semi is to smoke them, and hard to do that on that many axles... work

hadn't thought about the medical issue, that could be a strong possibility as it was moving frown

While a medical issue is possible I have to wonder because the truck looked under control while on the sidewalk for at least a block, and the driver did try to steer around two groups of stopped cars trying to avoid them. And agreed with what's been said about the brakes. When the air system pressure gets below 60 psi the brake canisters should lock up. That is if they were properly adjusted to begin with.

You (and everyone else) have to keep your adblocker updated, manually. Find out how for the adblock you use

It's better to keep your mouth shut and give the impression that you're stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.

You can click the X and close the message and then play it or watch with out supporting. I wonder why he didn't keep going strait(after he hit the first car) unless there was mechanical problem that made him turn left.

I am not a trucker in those big rigs but he seemed to be going way to far without shedding any speed..
The brakes should have worked on some level unless the pedal fell off and if that happened why didn't he downshift? Let off the gas? Etc?
Something seems fishy like he had no idea what he was doing or was doing it on purpose.
shruggy

I'm no expert by any means either, but as we mentioned before - air brake vehicles kinda work the opposite way hydraulic brakes work. When an Air brake vehicle LOSES it's air supply, the brakes APPLY full force. It's called "Dynamiting". So, unless the actual braking material on the shoes was down to nothing, the idea is that the truck will slow down and/or stop. Worst case, the wheels lock up but that rarely happens. Either way, the truck would stop. I don't see any smoke billowing out from the brakes, so he obviously didn't cook off all his pad material.

There are enough inconsistencies in this situation to fill a warehouse.

It's flat land, the truck was NOT decelerating, the brakes weren't smoking, if he'd lost air - the brakes would've dynamited.... only the most ignorant among us would think there aren't redundant systems already in place to mitigate this kind of situation.
