The SR's will work well on a 383, as long as they still have 2.19 intake valves. I don't think the bore of a 383 can take the 2.250 intake valves?

Not a pro but I have always seen warnings on not using a 2.19 intake on a 383. I think Trickflow heads say that their heads won't work on 383s for this reason. That said, I have never heard of anyone actually having a problem and there appear to be a few out there. Not sure if it is only on a stock bore and .030 or .060 over does the trick? I'd be curious to know as I have a 383 that needs good heads. A long lost member of this board ran a 431ci combo (383 block w/440 crank) for many years with SR heads. Combo ran 10's in a 70 Road Runner for years.

Indy used to make a 383-13 head, designed for the smaller bore but I can't find any specs on them. I know a few that have run the -1 heads on B blocks but not sure on the bore size they used. I'm not much help but I'd maybe ring or email Indy Cylinder Head.

I think I'm going to save the 440-SR's for my 400 or one of the 440's I've got, but with Best Machine closing I don't even know where to take those now. The 440-SR's I bought came with TTI headers for an RB in a B/E-body so I probably would have had to get different ones for the B-block, and they definitely aren't cheap. So, I guess I'm looking for some Edelbrock RPM's or some 440 Source Stealth heads, something with a 2.14 intake. I was considering the Trick Flow 240's, but they say right on the description that the minimum bore is 4.32". I hadn't noticed that before.

A low deck block w/ the raised port SR or -1 heads can use a regular header for a RB block.

max wedge motors i believe had a chamfer ground in where the intake valve came close? Just make sure no relief is ground far enough down the bore to be close to the top ring! I thought it was on the exh side ?
running up my post count some more .

So what about the intake manifold? I found a 383 intake shootout on Hot Rod. Looks like the TM6 did pretty well at 510 hp on their 383 with CNC ported Edelbrock RPM's. The Weiand tunnel ram was really good at 540 hp, but it looks like those are hard to find. They went with a lot more cam too. https://www.motortrend.com/how-to/hrdp-0801-mopar-intake-manifolds/ Best intake is the Trick Flow. I assume your SR heads are standard port size?

Yes, standard port size. I was told the previous owner used them with a Six Pack setup, but then put it back to stock. The guy I bought the short block from went with a Trick Flow intake on his 512 stroker, looked like a nice piece.

I did a lot of intake and carb testing last year with a 383/906 heads. I have run the Victor 383, RPM, TM6, and M1 (4500). I had good results with RPM but would say that it really likes a 2” merge spacer. The TM6 actually ran just a tad better than the RPM again 2” spacer. The last intake I tried was the M1 4500, I spun a rod on a test hit near the house so it never went down the track but I will likely start there on the new motor. Don’t be afraid to try a 4500 carb either. I have a torker, Street Dominator, and a Weiand tunnel ram left to experiment with. I’m sure the tunnel ram will make an appearance at some point.
As far as cam I would give Dwayne Porter a call and tell him what you’re going to do with the car and he should be able to help. My cam is a solid flat tappet 250@.050 and with a home ported 906 I’ve gone a best of 11.17 at 3400lbs.
