Hi Everyone!

I have a 73 Challenger that we installed a 76 440 into. Got a bad vibration at idle and above.

It looks like I may have the wrong torque converter (no weights). The 440 is externally balanced, what would be
a good torque converter? Supplier?

Thanks,
Jim

You can buy a weighted flex plate that will allow you to use any neutral balance torque converter.

They are offered by B&M and others.

Just be sure to get the correct one for a cast crank 440.

All cast crank big blocks take the same external weight.

I think what Dwayne meant was to be sure to get the flexplate for a cast crank big block and not the externally balanced forged crank 440.

I think it was a 50 gram weight, I’d double check what was used by the factory and see about welding that on there before pulling the trans for the special flex plate, which is your only other choice.

I want my fair share

Or one for a 360, or cast crank 340.

440Source shows them as well.

Thanks everyone. I have to change the torque converter anyway, too high a stall. Looking for something
closer to stock for easy cruising smile Not sure what to look for aftermarket?

Thanks,
Jim

If the motor is basically stock, you could use a rebuilt factory 12” unit, like what would have come behind muscle car era 440’s.

If there are some hot rod items involved, particularly a performance cam........ something like a factory high stall 11” might be preferred.

Some of that choice comes down to personal preferences.

iagree B&M 10237 flexplate is what you need if you have a cast crank 440.
