Nice Hinder. laugh2
I use the 9" in everything I build for play cars , and have no complaints.
Probably been a half dozen of them and I have yet to hurt one , from milder deals with 31 spline to 35 spline for the quicker cars.
Stock N cases at a minimum , but most got Strange with the 3.25 housing bore.
My first was an HRW case...........USA made back then.
But I don't think they are around anymore.
That was a hunk-o-iron.

Don't mind Cab with the Dana comment. He definitely know his stuff but is old school. That 9 inch is awesome. Just gotta say beat the hell out of it and report back

Nice up I may be moving to a 9" soon. Just can't seem to find pro gears in 3.91 or below for a Dana frown

I can remember when the Chrisman brothers had Jim Dunn and Joe Reath do the initial 9.0 inch rear end R&D on their old rear engine funny car back in the late 1970 and early 1980s, some one at Petersen publishing group heard about that and thought they would make news out of that effort hence all the chatter about the magical Ford nine inch rea end down twocents
I look at the 8.0% larger ring gear diameter and the larger tooth to pinion teeth contact as well as the reduce drag on the Dana 60 as well as the 40 spline axles
and lesser costs as my reasons to continue use them up
I'm old school I am and I'm not looking to waste my race car budget either up work A stock dana 60 housing with 3.0, 3 1/8 or the larger H.D. 3.250 diameter axles will take a lot more power than any stock Ford nine housing will take scope Why spend a $1000.00+ for a good after market 9 inch housing when a stock junk yard Dana 60 will live for you work
Dana 60 live long and go faster boogie grin up

Monte Smith always said that eventually you get to the point where you start bending housings...with a Dana, there's nothing you can do to stop it.
This is less likely to happen with really narrow housings like on a big tire car (depending on the power level of course). On a small tire car w/ stock style suspension (wide housing), especially on a drag radial, this is more of an issue.
I talked this over w/ him and he advised me to keep an eye on the housing and when (not if) it bends, to bite the bullet and change rears. Keep in mind, he's not talking about a 700 hp bracket car on slicks.
Every part of a race 9" is aftermarket, so the stock 9" strength argument need not apply here.

I am still running a Dana 60 in my Challenger. However, mine is an old 1 ton Dodge Ram axle I cut down and narrowed. They have thicker wall tubes. If I remember correctly they are 3/8" or 1/2" wall thickness. Also added ultra light weight spool, 40 spine gun drilled axles with 5/8" studs. Billet custom made caps and girdle support rear cover as well as additional structured welded/bracing to housing. Going to be hard to break or bend it.

Funny thing is all of my buddies that run 9" never swap the center sections once a gear ratio is chosen, so the simplicity of just being able to swap center sections never helps.

We all know then Brits can screw up a 50 ton wrecking ball in a sandbox with feather haha Just kidding grin
My 2850 Lb. S/P Cuda has hundreds of runs on the used 4:56 Dana brand pickup gears running in the high eights at 148+ MPH shruggy
Different folks get different results shruggy work

Nice upgrade. Probably the majority of modified Mopars over here in Australia have 9" rears.

Dana 60 and 8 3/4" rears and their parts aren't everywhere, and in most cases parts are a special order.

True on both counts grin grin. Challenger is over 4000lbs and to be fair, it was a set of street gears that bust.
