Thanks Tig. The hole ended up a little larger than planned as i had some sanding to fix a couple screw ups. The die grinder did a very nice job cutting a straight line. Just need to fill the hollow support, sand and paint.

Same here, had to make it easier to take on and off. Also on mine, the centre ridge and engine offset really bugs my symmetry OCD laugh

Yes, i do not like the look of the off set of the hole and carbs to the passenger side. I tried to figure how to make that look better by cutting more toward the drivers side, but that just created issues with the gap being larger on one side of the carbs than the other, so i just cut it the fit the carbs.

How did the brace turn out?I have a bolt on glass hood and after 15yrs it cracked by the hinge that I need to get to.I would like to fill the inside with something to make it stronger.

The self expanding urethane foam is likely the first/easiest choice. But be warned, over filling can wreak havoc, and/or distort the outer surface. Allowing a few vent holes, can reduce that problem, but the the vent holes if left in place, weaken the item you are trying to reinforce.

I do have a zig saw and a roto zip. The hole will be rectangular. Some good info here I will have to digest. Fine blade to prevent chips I assume? 9apps cartoonhd

I have not finished it yet. Does duraglass and tiger hair expand? If not I will fill the openings in the brace and sand. Gonna paint the hood black, but what shade of black should I paint it? I was thinking satin black or something similar.
