A hatchet on fiberglass! .... Did that a BUNCH of times for our Canuckada fiends !! Back then STILL DO ... the Canuckada customs would STICK IT to them big time ... But a damaged part PURPOSELY DAMAGED in the scoop area was cheap to go through customs! A 200$ hood is now a 40$ piece ! I had a HATCHET at the shop just for that !

Done plent of fiberglass and carbon. Cut off wheel to get the basic shape and drum sander wheel for the fine tuning. Pretty easy material to work with honestly.

I used a Jigsaw on mine. The dust wasn't bad at all. Jigsaw works the best. Leave a little wiggle room, and finish off with a flap wheel on the grinder. I'll be working on my hood tonight... A variable speed saber saw on sloooower speed..., FG dust ? .... whata buncha wimps ! larryLOVEit and I luv the smell of that dust in the morning..... It tastes like VICTORY! I hear it causes brain damage after a while. And drooling. You omitted one last common symptom , "rabid denial"

Thanks. The hood arrived today and looks like a very nice piece. Looks like i will have to cut into some of the bracing near the rear of the hood. Was hoping i would not have to and because of that i may have to take it to a marine or boat shop to have it finished. Will see. The hood is designed for cutting as there is no bracing in the center, but the T ram pokes up thru at the rear of the hood. Looking like about 4" from the rear. I made a plug to go inside the bracing and then glassed over it.Not hard to do.

3" metal cutting disc and a hole saw for the corners for the rough work. Straightened up with hand files and wet / dry for finishing. I had to glass on a support strut underneath on either side of the hole. With so much cut out it lost some rigidity and would likely have cracked the paint. I used a shop vac to cut down on the dust and wore a one piece disposable paper suit with my paint respirator / mask on too. (hood is still at the painters)

I have never worked with fiberglass patch. Is it hard to work with? Not really, once you get the hang of it. Be warned, its all about time, temp, mixing ratio, and material thickness. Best to practice a layup on a test piece to get your skills up to speed first if you want to minimize your post layup trim, finish work, etc and keep your hood nice and not distorted, in that FG can warp adjoining surfaces upon curing.
