Trying to help a friend long distance. Drag only 500"B engine. Has always been a hot running car and cools back down very slowly. So he put EVANS COOLANT in it and now goes to 230*at the end of a run. Sitting in the pits fan and pump running coolant barely trickles through the radiator. Pull the top hose, turn on pump---nothing flows out!!!. So,obviously pump is junk. NO. Took it out fine. Replaced with an old OEM iron pump,,,,,still no flow. I am baffled. Wish I could see it in person. Ideas? ????

Hi Dennis, Is this the waterless evans coolant? I looked at it a bunch a year ago and if i recall, the coolant is much more viscous, and cars run much hotter with it. Also, I thought it is OK to run at high temp without the coolant building pressure. I think it was OK because it keeps the hot spots cooler than with water. Once water becomes vapor, the temp can shoot to the moon.

Hey,Greg
Yeah I read about the heat reading hotter even though the engine is actually cooler.
Yes waterless.
I wondered if the thicker fluid was just slower flowing. But he has basically NO flow. As I said,he said he took the upper hose off and ZERO flow.
I suggested that he put straight water back in and see what happens.

Do you know if he had all of the water out of the system before putting in the EVANS? Sounds like its worth going back to water
I always wanted to try it, but I guess its not really NHRA approved. I am interested to see how it works out for him. Also, if I remember, Hemi Fred used it in his duster. You might search for his comments. (a long time ago now)
Thermostat...forgot about that little item
See you at NTR?

He said he flushed it out when changing coolant, appeared normal/OK.
Electric belt driven pump Moroso?. The block is poured, but has been in service about 15 years,so if it was too high it surely would have been an issue before unless it is the waterless EVANS stuff?

As said, first find out/fix what is slowing/restricting the flow (block/head/gasket restriction/rad restriction/low pulley ratio/pump vanes too far away from a stackup of tolerances (long shot but just sayin).

Electric belt driven pump Moroso?.
People still run those?? - I would not be surprised that it has slowed or is not operating all the time - those things are nothing more than an old fan motor! HEY,I still use one too. Old car /old parts/old driver LOL

I would have him remove the lower radiator hose and do a flow test with a garden hose through the radiator cap to see if the radiator will flow out all the water the garden hose will fill the radiator with If it won't it may be plugged up from the block filler now

it may be plugged up from the block filler now Good point. Another good reason to try one of those coolant filters.
