Scrap the heavy stuff. Solvent or 2+2 + scotchbrite to finish. Good oven cleaner might work well. Never tried it though.
If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

Soak them in soapy water overnight upside down with the top in the water but not into the ring lands Soak and scrape until clean as new Do not soak for days though either

This works for me, let it soak in and light scuff pad takes it off pretty easily.

I use heat riser solvent and a wire brush, the GM stuff works good. Gus lol! treed. this stuff works. we sell a lot of it at work. I'm a broken chevy fixer parts supplier.

berrymans B12 carb spray will literally melt it right off. It is way better and faster than anything else you can get right now. DOn't get the dumbed down California version, B12-C.
