Maybe they are rotating the stock or supplier, for the last year summit has dumped at one time or the other almost all the older 90-s kits for $199 shipped, now they seem to be nearly 2x that price.

Or maybe they are just saying F it?

Have you checked ebay for the kit your looking for?

When the price for a BB 509 cam kit went to $500, I just assumed that was FCA's way of letting everyone know they weren't interested in selling those anymore.

Todd is Correct
Nostalgia Purple Plus has nice lobe that makes better power than old Mopar cams and is very easy on the valvetrain
We LOVE'Em and highly suggest you let Todd send you one--You will be very pleased!! The biggest one with some Sidewinder heads in a 440 with compression is a very hot combo

What do you expect from a company that makes pink clown cars?

Step up and buy a good cam, not some low priced piece of junk designed in the 1970s down twocents
Lots of way better choices out there now on camshaft packages scope

Ya what ever , I want to try a 528 solid in my 451 , those noisy fast lobes are not the best for every one.

There are a lot of myths and misinformation spread on and through the internet on web sites like this one, especially about parts which are cheap and parts that are good, seldom will you find a good cheap part work
If you want good performance parts buy good ones, if you want cheap parts that will work okay buy the cheapest ones you can find shruggy whistling
Once you have wasted a bunch of money on cheap parts like cam kits and finally buy a good one and degree it and find out how much better it runs you may learn you like the good parts better work scope
Talk is cheap, performance costs more and is harder to get correct shruggy

I like the Comp XS282S as a great alternative to the MP528 cam in applications where the 2deg tighter lsa won't be a problem.

Of course, you can get something taylored to your specific needs as well.

I have a new BB MP 528 cam I could probably persuaded to part with.

Indeed, if someone has the specs for their favorite purple-shaft thingy they can look in the lobe catalogs of the bigger companies, find similar lobes and put the separation where they think they need it. You could even paint it purple if you want. There's no need to send money to Italy for a camshaft, support your [local] grinder.

I have absolutely no idea as to why anyone would want to use one of those things except for being "nostalgic". Soooo many better options out there.

I've always loved the solid purpleshaft cams, they've always been a huge bang for the buck. But now that I've seen where the prices have gone on them I would suggest a custom solid or save up for a good roller.

I bought my 590 solid purpleshaft for '$169 with lifters' from Summit Racing, went 9.89 at 136mph in my 451 motor at 3050 pounds.

My current car has the 557 that I bought off Sport440 for 50 bucks, I bought some solid lifters from Summit for less than a 100 bucks.
I drive the car to the track, run 10.60's and drive it home on 93 octane with 3.23 gears.

So I'm not happy to see that the prices have shot up but I'd never say that they are outdated '70's junk(internet myth). If I were to build a car today to run 9.50's I would have no problem with putting that old 590 in the motor. twocents

Sure there is always one step better everything, one could say the same thing about a oem front end vs a modern lightweight coil over front end, carb vs fi, ect.

Look at all the gimped up, band aided oem blocks hanging on by a wing and a prayer because cheap asses wont pop for the "real" blocks....

A simple 150 plate kit can balance a easy to drive vs a testy hi compression/roller build in alot of cases.

And really unless a well built street or strip car if its not heads up, but a basic bracket car its still back of the bus vs others in alot of ways.

Blah...Blah.....Blah...

And the kicker is for 9 out of 10 of us here vs a well thought out LS car with a cheap boost kit will leave us all thinking.

Were all running old junk, why split hairs over cams.

I'd agree also, a few years back I rounded up all the parts from a 440 I built in the 80s, TRWs 9.5, 452 heads with 2.14 1.81s and just a basic blue print. I had a NOS 557 cam on my shelf so in it went, and for kicks and giggles put it on the dyno, 520hp 545tq..

Not bad for motor you could change the cam and springs and put it in an rv.

Have a great day
