I have Harland Sharp rocker gear. I have been told that anything above 1.50 diameter spring wont work with these rocker arms. Was just curious( if i ever ran a roller wifh this HS setup) if anybody makes roller springs that are 1.50 or smaller OD Just looked through the comp catalog and didnt see anything

I ran a solid roller in my 360 with eddie heads and Erson rockers. I used the K-Motion K800 with a 1.46 OD spring. My cam was a 260@.050 and .640ish lift(or close to that). I changed the springs out yearly because I was doing drag week with them but I never had a problem. This 360 made 500ish hp in good air(11.16@119.5@ 3500lbs)

http://www.kmotion.biz/springdat.htm K motion has many that will work on a small roller. Comp also has some smaller dia springs for a mild street strip roller cam. But you have to look at there chart for outter and inner and mix and match, but K motion has always worked for me. A comp 977-16 with the next step up inner will run a comp .525 lift street roller.

That 800 spring is only 165, didnt see anything under 1.50 that would be 240-270 to run a fairly stout roller, around 1.800 ish installed height The flat tappet i have now is around 140-145 itself. If i went roller, have to be a sizeable upgrade over what i have

Why not have your rockers machined like many do? I know its hard to send them off to get the heck cut out of them.
But then your cutting spring pockets too.
Have you considered a tool steel or schubeck like solid lifter, I run them on a steel core at .700 lift.
I use very light valvetrain parts and seem to be able to get by on alot lighter springs then many use.
Ive spun the comps and K motions to 74-7600 and things never skipped a beat for very short time periods, just 1/8.
Im sure if you looked into the higher end springs you can find ones that will work for a bigger roller. Thanks. Some good thoughts/ ideas. I have a couple other changes to make on the car, and going to a roller cam might not be needed if the other changes pick the car up enough. Probably would want to keep everything i currently have and just swap out cam and springs and retainers if i can get away with it. I will bounce it off Dwayne, he specced the springs i am running now

Pac Spring makes alot of small od roller springs. Great parts but be prepared to pay. Thats it right there, I like the $150 springs not the 3-400 ones, but oddly I will use $800 lifters...

If i dont hit what i am shooting for, another option might be swapping my 1.5 intakes for 1.6 intake rockers with the cam i have Its 565/565 lift, so with a .377 lobe that would be 603 gross lift. Might make a bit more steam opening the valves that much more?
Edit.... looks like HS gets 43 each for the 1.6 intake rockers, so about 350 bucks

Here again if you just wanted to test and dont have any 1.6-s, ive a extra tested set of the china HS that are 1.6 that ive 60 flawless runs on id loan out. I buzz them to 7500 all the time and its ironic they have better geometry the the HS units do.
Thanks. Thats an offer i might end up taking you up on. My motor has never even seen 6500 rxcept for a couple of times in the water box not being careful

I think you're going to have a hard time finding a stiff roller spring for that particular application.
Of course, how much pressure do you really want to use with 5/16" hold down hardware?

I have a set of freshly rebuilt Comp 828-16 lifters I am going to be selling if you need them. I also have about 4 sets of K800s with about 2000-2500 miles on each set I will throw in with the lifters.
My moderate roller cam had no trouble going to 7000 with the K800s. They also help up well to hours on the highway at 3500-4000RPM.

I have been told that anything above 1.50 diameter spring wont work with these rocker arms. Maybe you shouldn't believe everything you're told. A stock big block spring is 1.55" diameter. Do you think HS would make a rocker that couldn't be used with a stock spring? I have HS rockers, 1.55" dia. springs and no issues at all with clearance. And yes, its a solid roller cam but that makes no difference.

That combo has pretty limited space between the rocker and the spring, and HS rockers rub 1.55 springs on those heads. It's right on the HS website, 1.50 max spring diameter. Oh, and I'm pretty sure OE BB springs are slightly under 1.500(1.48-1.49 IIRC) not 1.550.

After posting it occurred to me that he probably had a small block. I thought I had deleted my post but obviously not.

See if any of the stiffer beehive springs from Comp Cams or PAC fit the required specs. As with all springs, check pressures periodically.
I don't like cutting rockers for clearance because I've seen too many break there.

With that particular head/rocker combo, rather than trying to reinvent the wheel, I just use cam lobes that will work with springs that fit those heads & rockers.
From what I understand, the T&D's will clear the 1.55 springs.
With a little spring pocket cutting and tall retainers, you can get 1.900 installed height....... So, that combined with the T&D's opens up the spring selection quite a bit.
However, you're still dealing with 5/16" hold down hardware.

I have used either Comp or PAC for a blown SB Chevy years ago that where 1.440 O.D., I don't remember the exact installed and open pressures but I'm sure they where above 225 Lbs. on the seats and over 500 lb. opened I think they where dual spring with a dampener.
