Like others have said - go with the PBR and don't look back. I also have a small radial tire class car I run and use the 28 x 10.5 wherever its allowed in the rules. I've been a 1.19 60' @ 3200 on a leaf spring with that tire on a not that great track. That AND I have to pull power to keep the front end down. That tire is fantastic!

Aren't the DOT tires quite a bit heavier than drag slicks?

I hesitated to mention the car since its brand X. A 1966 Chevy II with a procharged smallblock.

Aren't the DOT tires quite a bit heavier than drag slicks? the DOT (SS) are heavier than the PBR which is heavier than a rag slick . The Hoosier DOT 275 radial is noticeably lighter than the PBR but does not have the life , and are a [censored] to fit hate to fit 1 on a 10"rim . BUT a lot run a tube with rag slicks so put some weight back . Tex

Would a combo of the M/T having 2" more roll out and having to run less PSI account for the lower ET & MPH? The 60 foots were very close. 1.41 Hoosier & 1.42 M/T. Hope to try Castrol this Sunday.

Could those things have a negative impact on the cars performance? Sure.
Only one way to know for sure.
Any significant difference in weight between the two?

31 Lbs on the M/T. The Hoosier does not list the weight on their site. But I see Jegs says 26 Lbs. So 5 Lbs probably does not help.

The air Density altitude was bad at SIR last weekend. It was around 4,500 feet and got closer to 5,000 feet near the 3 rd round.
I was able to dial in enough power to still run 9.00's but traction was also not great later in the afternoon.
You will pick up a lot if it gets back down to 3,000 feet where it should be in the fall there...
My 10.5's were definitely spinning as 60 foot slowed from 1.26 down to 1.35.
Nice talking to you in the lanes!
Cheers,
Arnie

Ok. Did not realize the air was that bad on Saturday. Sunday with the wind I didn't question the numbers I was getting If our weather don't smarten up, this weekend could be it. Will run Castrol on Sunday. Made the final 8 Sunday, well 7 because there was a bi. With the wind the track had gone away well before then. I was lucky. The 2 previous rounds I won because they each broke out. Weather looks good Sunday so we will see what happens.
Great chatting as well. You have a beast of a car.

So I have a question...If your running big power NA and a small tire with a carb, how do you ramp the power in? UMM, lets see, do they really want to share that secret with the rest of the world Many different ways to fix that problem, left foot throttle control, timing and so on

Yeah that is correct. The power I make sticks as long as suspension is set up and the track has a good prep on it. Now if I was to spray on top that would be a different story.

So Castrol results different. 60 and MPH /ET same as Hoosiers. Tried a small 75 shot. Ran a 9.86 with a 1.38 60 at 136 and change. The PBR's worked well. Not much burnout needed. Also ran almost 20 PSI with no issues.

So I have a question...If your running big power NA and a small tire with a carb, how do you ramp the power in? Use an MSD Power Grid controller to change the timing curve. You can set up a time based retard curve that begins on release of the Trans Brake.
