I wouldn't put A/C in ANYTHING but then again I live in a climate where A/C and/or heat in a car is not needed. I tore the heater out of my Duster in 2001. Have not missed it.

Of course you do...You live in the Valley.

That being said when I was in Davis the Duster still didn't have A/C...Neither did the black '55 Buick. The girlfriend's '97 Mitsubishi 1.5 did, but it sucked so much power I just sweated and dealt with it.

I remember seeing a ragtop with air the first time I was in Fla many years ago and wondering "why". So I asked the owner and he gave me a very good reason for Fla at least. He said it can easily be 85 deg and pouring rain at the same time. Made sense to me.

I'd put in the biggest BTU kit that will fit in the car for max cooling capacity.

Is this a real 1970 'Cuda convertible with a 'Cuda vin and data plate?

No, it's not a 'Cuda, it's a Barracuda. Originally a 318 / automatic car. When I bought the car it had a non running 360 in it. It needs LOTS of metal work. I'm going to get shot down for this....but I figured I might as well make yet another 'Cuda "clone". Just tossing around the idea of adding air while I'm at it. One day it sounds like a great idea, the next I figure it's not worth the hassle. So I thought I'd get the opinion of guys that have 'verts with and without air and if they use it or wish they had it.

One more comment. If you don't put the AC you will regret it the first HOT, HUMID day you want to drive it.

Not like an aftermarket a/c system costs terribly much, compared to the total of the car if you're already tearing it down to do metal work. You could always go with one of the low-mount a/c compressor mounting kits that puts the compressor under the alternator. That way for the most part you can keep all the a/c components down low and out of sight and out of mind, until you flick that switch and get that cool blast of air. IMO looks much better than an ugly compressor sitting on the top center of your engine. I don't think you would ever really regret putting in something like that even if you don't use it much. Just depends if you want to spend the money on it right now.

The height of decadence is top down and A/C full blast. Do it!

I vote for AC allways... vert cars with top up are MORE HOT inside than regulars hardtops

then if you want to turn on or not, is your problem but will have the option.

AC is necesary specially on rainy days. Is false the vent or deffog keeps the same exterior temperature inside, so you gets fog inside ALLWAYS.

No, I got a 67 'cuda vert and have driven it for several years without A/C (it came that way). I don't miss it one bit, but then again I like cars with manual windows, manual locks, manual tranmission and a carb on top of the engine!

Yes

Perfect Top down weather is below 80f anything more you can put the top up and a/c on on or top down and A/C on to maybe 85f

Allen Here's a novel idea, let's not throw a bunch of parts at the car hoping it will fix the problem and instead spend a little time diagnosing it first. Life was a little easier when I was just a wrench.

In that case, let the freon fly!!! Go for it.

The 68 GT vert in my sig pic had the ball-cooler A/C and I liked it! Nothing like cruising down the road with the top down and the air blowing up your shorts...

A/C makes it soooo much more enjoyable to drive when it gets really hot out.

Kayse can't keep up at all now. lol

Let me add a comment from "The Middle!" Here in the midwest, Chicago Area, the humidity can be higher than the temperature and raining! Makes the interior of your car like a steam room!
It's not a numbers matching, concours restoration, and, most importantly IT'S YOURS so do what YOU want to do with the car and don't worry what others tell you. If the A/C install is done correctly it's going to enhance the value of the car anyway!

The electronic controled box for a/c really cleans up under the dash. No mess of vacuum hoses or cables. Doesn't look stock, but was a much nicer install.
It really isn't that much. Around 1600 I think when all was said and done including the freon charge.

But mine required a lot of work since it was a universal kit and wasn't meant for that car or engine.
