I just did an oil and filter change and now there is no oil pressure. The gauge worked just prior to the oil change. I have lots of oil in the pan. No leaks either. What should I look for?

mechanical or electrical gauge? if electrical is there any possibility a wire got bumped loose? are the lifters clattering? Lastly you might pull the filter & even cranking or starting it for several seconds to see if it is pumping (on that one hopefully a BB or a SB with the 90 deg adapter so you can put a bag over it!. holler how it goes/what it ends up being.

No other work done. Just oIL and filter. I put a Fram PH8A on. Car has a mechanical gauge. I let it run for 25 seconds or so and the gauge didn't move. I primed the filter before putting it on. The filter is warm to the touch.

do not run past 10 seconds. damages bearings. pull dist and drive gear and turn pump with drill motor. try different gauge.

To Keep It Simple Sam, it sounds like a bad filter (not sure exactly how it is plugged or partly plugging up tho). I would suggest a Wix. EDIT yes hand fill the new filter up first, as you know it'll take a few minutes for it to settle so you get it as full as you can

Any strange noises? Check the connection on the sending unit, mine slipped off on one of my 440s, scared the daylights out of me when I saw 0 lbs, put it back on...all good...just a quickie unless filter is bad....

Check the oil gauge's line between the engine and the gauge. Also try a different oil filter. I recommend a Wix or a Napa Gold filter. You didn't say what type of oil you put in it?

I would spend 6 bucks and slap on a new filter first.
If it doesn't fix it then, I would do as sugguested and do the drill method to prime the motor and see if you are getting oil so you don't damage anything without pressure.

The fact that it is warm means some flow, but doesn't mean enough.

After changing filters, and getting pressure, cut open the fram and tell us what's wrong with it. :-)

Another vote to install a different brand filter, pull dist and prime with a drill.

If you don't go that route, pull the filter, pack as much Vaseline into the pump as you can and install a new filter.

I had an oil pump failure ~ 1975 on my '68 383, don't recall the mileage but well under 100,000 miles. Probably a long shot but don't overlook it either. I stupidly damaged my engine. 2ยข

I've heard too many horror stories on Fram filters, so never used them. Wix, then started to hear they may be producing over seas now too, not sure. Using Baldwin now.

I would definitely pull the filter to start and cut it open. That's cheap and easy, then go from there.

Facts are stubborn things.

I know Fram's are usually junk, but I had this happen recently with a Performance K&N filter on my Trans Am's LS1, oil change/filter, no pressure, changed out filter for another K&N; presto! oil pressure...sounds like quality standards are slipping everywhere!

myself,
I say pull the distubutor and drive gear.
Use a drill to run the pump ( don' forget CCW on a BB)]
IF you are building pressure the drill motor will let you know via resistance.
If so, and no pressure registering,
Change the guage,
Still no pressure ?
change the filter and repeat.

I would NOT START THE MOTOR AGAIN until the drill motor produces pressure PERIOD!!

please report back an whether it was a filter problem or not. AGAIN,
I would NOT START THE MOTOR AGAIN until the drill motor produces pressure PERIOD!!

another vote for changing the filter. This exact symptom is why i quit using fram filters. On a side note, make sure the o ring off the old filter didn't stay stuck to the pump, either.
