I'm converting my rear suspension to Caltracs, I'm using stock rear shackles, I've snapped two of the bolts while tightening the nuts. One time it snapped before I torqued them, the second time it snapped while torquing them. Anyone have issues with these shackles? I don't know what brand or exactly where they were made, got one pair from a friend NIB and I believe they were purchased from Mancini Racing.

I've got it all assempbled now, but I am lacking confidence that these shackles will hold up.

i've never had the bolt snap and can't figure out how that could happen. i have had them come loose from the press fit but even that is more annoying than anything else. are you sure the bushings are the right ones?

All the parts are correct, I'm wondering if it is defective cheap parts possibly made in China. This has all happened during assembly with no weight of the car on the suspension yet, so that scares me a bit.

Dorman brand from the AP store if available or whatever Firm Feel sells would be my suggestion. Or used original. I am still running originals with upgraded springs and suspension.

I broke a couple with ease about 30 years ago. They were mopar performance/direct connection pieces. I would have hoped they got those issues corrected by now. I still re-use sometimes, the factory jobs as of late.

Most off these use a mechanical lock nut and don't need to be very tight. I just use an open end wrench to tighten them and that is all you need. Once the nut stops against the shackle STOP TIGHTENING IT or you will snap it off.

iagree
The A body thread size is a lot smaller than the B and E body size hangars, don't use the wrong torque specs. tsk

^ agreed, all I do is A bodies & the diameter of the short threaded end of the shank is pretty small.
