I have a 727 core from a 1972 440 powered C body that I'm going to have built up for use in my Coronet. The Coronet will be a driver with a mildly built 440, streetable torque converter and a 3:55 rear. It will be mostly street driven with an occasional pass at the strip. The trans currently has a 3.2 kick down lever in it and I was wondering if a 3.8 or 4.2 lever upgrade would be a good idea. Thxs

IMHO yes. I used a 3.8 on mine.

also rebuilt it with new frictions/steels/front/rear bands/seals

new CRT-TF-2 shift kit valve body, CRT-billet front/rear servos

3.2 will work fine for your application. Make sure you use 4 clutches in the high drum.

Thanks for the feedback. One other thought. If the present 440 was swapped out for a similarly built, pump gas friendly 496 down the road. Would the 3.2 still be a decent choice?

Depends on usage. On the street it will provide a calmer 1-2 shift. Many guys that run FAST class use 2.9. My 9.0@149 car only runs a 3.8 with excellent clutch and band life.

Another problem with the 1972 C body core will be the 4500rpm full throttle upshifts. Rick at A & A Transmission has the cure for this.

Magnum Thxs. I'm a transmission newbie. Just guessing here, being a C body trans it shifts early at WOT compared to an HP unit. Checked out A&As site. He shows multiple governor kits for different RPM shift points. My cam is all done at 5200, so I would use the correlating RPM trans governor?

Only if you leave it in Drive....manual shifting is a wiser and cheaper option.

I'd go with the 3.8 or 4.2

What do you mean by "all done"? What is the cam size?

Just a 268H Comp Cams hydraulic, 1200-5200 RPM range.
