Were the fender wells painted body color or painted black? I am working on a 70 Cuda. TIA

The fender wells were coated in undercoating which was black.

Correct, undercoating (black) went on after the body was painted and the fender wells were painted the same color.

The whole car is painted body color. The wheel houses are undercoated after painting. You should look for some examples to see where the typical limits of the undercoating was applied.

But what about LA built cars? My understanding is the LA built cars didn't get undercoating in the front wheel wells but got a black out treatment like the radiator support so you didn't see body color.

Had not heard this one, so I just went out and looked at my LA Dealer Promo car survivor. It has undercoating on both front wheel wells, but now get this, never noticed, NO PAINT. You can see the metal and the dip effects. I will try and get some pictures when I get some more time. Like the old saying, when it comes to Mopar, never say never.

I'm sure there were occasional variations depending on human factors, but basically, the cars were primered, then painted, then undercoated. Primer under most everything, paint color oversprayed into wheel wells and outer areas of floor, undercoating hosed into wheelwells after some masking of attachment points & access covers.
Paint overspray is usually pretty light in areas where part of the car was in the way of the spray pattern. My '68 - '69 non-L.A. cars had a medium-grey primer, like the green Cuda above, but not as light as the purple Cuda appears to be.

And is that dip a dark color?

Does the car have undercoating all under it? Is it a A/C car?

I will say the dip color is dark, when compared to my 71 GranCoupe, which is a Hamtramck production. The car has full undercoat and yes, it is an AC car.

I looked at some pics of my 10/69 SPD LA built cuda before disassembly and the front fender wells did not have factory undercoating. Also original paint coverage was not great in the fender wells. Mostly primer and b7 overspray.
