Riddle me this Bat Man. My oil pressure has been 80 psi cold and 60 psi hot. The car has about 600 miles on it everything is fine excpet the oil psi went to 20 at idle and 40 when you rev thr engine. the only thing I can tell you is the psi never went to 0 psi. Could I have a broken pressure relief spring. I have been using brad penn 10-40 oil. The oil psi stayed at 60 psi through the engine rpm's noe it fluctuates. Mark

First thing I would do is make sure it's tight. Had one back out and pressure dropped about 15 lbs ..

Check the filter

Same answers as above. Check the filter for metal [cut it open ] , while your right there check the pressure relief cap on the oil pump make sure it's tight. I had one back out and lost all oil pressure.

Same here, I had the cap back out on my '65 Belvedere and my pressure dropped in half. Good luck getting at it in some cars too. I actually took an open end wrench and shaved it down real thin and that did the trick.

Mine did the same thing at the beginning of the year and i think it was the #4 cam bearing had came halfway out.

Mine chewed up the pump gears after a broken valve spring. No ther motor damage. Inspection showed the pump spring was broken in 2 pieces as well. I would say there was about a 20-25 psi difference after the repair.

After you find the problem,I suggest in line screens and NON bypass Moroso oil filters.

Sofar good news nonthing to worry aboun in the oil. It was clean and real tiny particals in the oil filter. I think they came from the engine breaking in. Also there was on oil on the dip stick. I got punched for that.

If this is a street motor (you stated 600 miles), is there something forcing you to run external oiling? If it's not internal issues causing the fluctuations, I'd pull that off as it's unnecessary overkill x5

Street and strip. Next year it will be mostly strip NSS. The pump was all new and free as I have to use what is given to me. Plus I had clearance issues inside so I took the easy root. Mark

Had it happen before, the relief valve on the oil pump got stuck in the bore.

It is best to pull the pump and double check everything. You could spin the thing with a priming rod before and after to see any change. The last time I had fluctuation like you describe there was metal in the pump,,,,,,,,,,,jamming the bypass intermittently.

I had a chance to go over the oiling system in the car. It had a broken pressure relief spring. I had one and changed it out. I changed the oil 10-30 crossed my fingers and started the car. 63psi cold and 45psi hot. The oil pressure was consistent never moving. Thanks for all the input it helped a lot. I got my ladder bar kit for Christmas it should be going to the fab shop this month and testing at Cecil County this spring. Can't wait

if you have a weak spring or want to bump up pressure,take off the cap for the spring,and put a 1/4 lock washer in there
