This pic should give you an idea of what the shifter linkage looks like. The 1st/2nd and 3rd/4th rods go through the shifter tunnel. The reverse rod goes underneath the crossmember on an E=Body. Another pic. If the forward gear shift rods are dragging the crossmember it sounds like a sagged trans mount. If the reverse rod doesn't go underneath the crossmember it's the wrong reverse rod and possibly the wrong shifter.

If the trans mount lets the trans tail-housing sit too low it could cause that. Had this happen on the Challenger. Replacing the transmission mount raised the tail-shaft and stopped the trans from popping out of gear. Wish I took pics as I wonder what application that mount was for.

A stock type trans mount. Polyurethane style. Either way the bolt should go through the center. If the bolt is going through the upper part the mount is bad.

Spend the extra $20 or whatever it is for the poly trans mount, the factory style rubber doesn't last very long (junk lol)
1973 challenger Dana. 4 speed. Low deck.

I was trying to describe that the center where the bolt goes through had moved to the top as the mount was broken. A stock type trans mount. Polyurethane style. Either way the bolt should go through the center. If the bolt is going through the upper part the mount is bad.
