That's what made me go dana. I didn't mind the maintenance on the 8&3/4 but when it took the trans out I stopped seeing the banjo as neet. One of the few occasions I fixed a problem before it became a problem.

do u guys use bolt in sprags or just the one that is pressed in the case stock.im wondering because the bolt in one i used cracked the case, because it couldnt spin the outer piece,it spun everything in the center though.let here opinions on this The picture i posted in your other thread was of a stock sprag. It also cracked the case.

Super sprag is an upgrade, more rollers. Though Idid see one bust last year when a rear end broke. The stock style bolt in piece is no better than a stocker in my opinion Doug

I think no matter what sprag you have in there, when you hammer it with broke teeth on a ring gear, she is going to break. The sprag DVW talked about above was the strongest sprag available but still broke. BUT, it held and kept the engine from over reving.

the two race cars I've had both have run the stock sprag. I'm not sure how true it is, but the shop that rebuilt my dad's 727 said the bot in sprag is no better than the stock unit

Could have gone A833 instead, and never have to worry about sprags again Until the gears lock up on the shaft and the trans locks and your car skids through the traps and possibly into the wall.... yup replacing a car is way cooler than replacing a sprag

I'm not sure how true it is, but the shop that rebuilt my dad's 727 said the bot in sprag is no better than the stock unit I had inquired about the bolt in unit, as well as the "super sprag" and it wasn't deemed a necessity by my builder. I can do a 727, but when it comes down to the fine details of getting a shift to take place quickly and efficiently... that's a gray area for sure.

The purpose of it is to replace an outer race that is lose in the trans case. The best bolt in sprags are not cheap ... A+A or Coan ... and should not let the rollers roll over, but with enough force they could break the case still. When I install one I use the 6 bolt and machine to add the extra 2 bolts under the rear support.
running up my post count some more .
