I've never played with a DOT tire but in my car I've run with and without tubes. With the tubes it gave me a stiffer side wall and increased the life of the side walls by a good 40%-50% more runs. When I get rid of my tires there's plenty of rubber left but the sides are going away

I run tubes in mine, for the stiffer side wall, and not having to worry about leaking air
The downsides are that you have to screw the rim or you could pull the valve out if the bead slips-this has caused some serious issues over the years, the extra weight costs some ET and the tubes will not allow the tire to lay perfectly flat. If you are bracket racing the last 3 hundredths don't really matter so extra tire life may be a reason to use them. Don't forget that good tubes cost over a hundred bucks apiece.

I haven't used tubes in any tires in years. My present racer is an Outlaw 10.5 car. We use 33/10.5W-16 tires on 16" wide double beedlocks. Car has run in the 6's at 206. No tubes. Nobody that races with us uses tubes. For bracket racing there is less of a reason to not use them.
I think this statement summs it up beadlocks for fast cars.Tubes for us slow guys

One of the things that made me wonder about this is looking at the Tire discription's in the Summit catalog almost all the slicks call for a tube. Iwas really suprised all the more tire choices non-tube guys have. So my next question is can you take a tire that calls for a tube and use it without one?
Yep - Dawn dish soap and some rim screws.

If I worried about that, I'd have to screw the front tires to the rims too

Buy the new slicks, soap them up and run them until you start having to pump them up more than you would like. Then if you still have tread left put in the tubes. Some guy's change there slicks more than they change their underwear, some change them after they start to rot.

Rip a tube and you are done. Get a small hole in a tire - plug it and keep going.
No tubes = less rotating weight and less $ spent
Tubes = stiffer sidewall - but I can order tires with that already built in.
ever see a tube get wadded up in the tire?

If installed correctly they won't wad up, every one i have changed out never had a wrinkle in them. If installed correctly , having the tire desoaped, is that a word? [ cleaned and dry ] then use lots of tire talc to keep the tube from binding you'll have no problem.
