Puttin my boys car back together and will need a new clutch.
car is a 68 coronet with 440 approximatly 390ish HP and has 143 tooth flywheel drilled for 10.5 or 11 inch. It will see track time but mostly street.
What will work with sticky tires and still be streetable?

I like this McLeod setup. Works with a 10.95
" disc. It'll work well for your HP range.

I run a Center Force dual friction 11 inch behind my B body 440 with over 550 HP.Been in for years and still hooks great.Plus it has a light pedal. Some will say a diaphram isnt good for recing.Ive never had a problem shifting at 7000 many times. Its been street /strip.Rocky

I agree. Great set up. I don't rev. to 7000 on purpose, but the engine has been there unintentionally from time to time with no issues. I would recommend CFDF.

4 speed street legal. Best time 10.99 @ 124 mph on 93 octane pump gas @ 3926# total weight

I run the Centerforce dual friction and it works very good, but, expect to play with the clutch linkage. It requires more throw than the stock clutch did to get it to fully disengage with proper throwout bearing space at rest.

I've been running a South Bend Clutch "DXD" for several years, with no complaints.

Is that 390hp at the wheels or the flywheel?

flywheel HP, Engine has 6pack replacement pistons, cam is hughs 536 lifthydrolic,Stock 452 heads and has a rpm intake with 750 DP, HP is just estimated but i should be close. My dilema is I have never run a diaphram pressure plate myself though have heard many good things about them. I like the idea of the Dual friction Mcleod with the lever style pressure plate but i'm open to input as many have already. thumbs

For what it's worth, my DXD is a 3 finger Borg & Beck style. The guys at South Bend were awesome...very friendly and great customer service! If you tell them what you want to do, they will make you the clutch you need. I figured if they can build a clutch to harness 1200+ lb ft of modified Cummins diesel, a naturally asperated 440 should be no problem. So far, I'm happy with my choice. smile
