I never used a racepac... I did a TON of data logging
at work... was reading up to 400 channels on a car
in most cases.. went higher on others... there are
certain perimeters that will dictate how good any unit
is.. what sensors, number of sensors and how fast it
can read the sensors.. how many analog and other
inputs.... this was on car testing just like the
racepac is doing
EDIT
and one of the most important things is the amount
of data the storage can hold(how many channels and
hours)

for the guy who started this it depends how deep you want to get in to logging.
i my self got a wego3 for hacking and tuning my zx12 ninja. well it goes on all my toys and some friends.
it is just rpm afr and a 0 to 5 scalable channel.
but you get to see many things no one that is not logging can see with just afr and rpms.
the size of a credit card.and 300 to 400 bucks.
.1sec is the fastest poleing setting and 800 memory cells. so at .1 you get 1 to 2 passes in the memory.
but i love it with out being a lot to look at it is simple for simple logging.

I'll bet I have $5000 into my sportsman. The thing about Racepak is, everyone uses them so those that have used them are familiar with reading them. I'm still learning mine after 3 years.

I have a racepak in my outlaw Camaro and a RPM in my dart. I honestly can say even though the racepak is *better* the RPM is awesome for the money and never thought about replacing it.

I love the info from vacuum through the pass to converter slippage.
A bud of mine bought I believe it's called a Data maxx and the damn thing looks like a flat screen TV .
Anyway I love the iq3 and the info it provides because the guess work is gone.

We use RPM and I can't imagine anything else we need to log that it doesn't do...Saved enough over the racepak to buy these !!

If you need help with your setup, you can show your racepak file to just about anyone at the track and they will know how to read it and analyze the data. The other loggers may function just as well, but they are not as widely used.

The sky is the limit honestly. You need to decide what you want to log first, then decide which logger will fit your needs best. The Racepak sportsman is less expensive but has more limited capabilities from the factory, channels that it can monitor and type. The v300 has more capability while the 500 has the most. Prices for the base units go from $850 for a Sportsman to $3200 for a V500o unit. All other channels(sensors)are extra and those prices vary and interchange with each unit.

Read all you want here
http://www.racepak.com/Drag_Racing/Sportsman.php
For most bracket guys a Sportsman will do all they want or need.

Thanks....

We are a dealer for Racepak. It's the only logging unit I sell. If there is anything I can help you with please give me a call. I've found it's easier to help you make a decision over the phone that trying to have you decipher their website....

Ben, a question for you: Like Mr. P, I have an Altronics Informer. If I were to switch to a racepak, can I use the sensors from the Informer?
The Informer uses a serial cable, with an adapter to plug into USB. And the software is ancient. I understand that the Racepak has a simple interface like a smart card or something...

What Al said.

I know that the Racepak can be an intimidating investment up front, and you will want to save as much as you can, but if you just get everything from them the first go round, there will be no issues. I can't tell you how many times I've had a customer ask me to retrofit his old stuff and by the time I'm halfway through I'm ready to put a bullet in my head....haha..

Thanks

The gripe I have is, to log a few things its +$1300 and I don't even get a display...For about the same price, I can get an entire efi system that logs everything and it comes with a display...Unfortunately its not legal in my class. So I wanted to see what else was out there.

Then get a logging dash if that is important to you.

That would stick out in a Nostalgia class like a pink Zebra....I did look at those, but I would have to ask the tech director if those are allowed...I really don't know.

I did the racepak white gauges in my dash to keep the nostaligic look, i didn't want to use the display.
