Picked this baby up Saturday. It is kind of an odd optioned car. E65 383 4 BBL D32 HD 727 RP23 N1G EV2 TORED/Hemi Orange P6X9 Premium Bucket Black Seats TX9 Upper Door Frame Black/Black Velvet V1X Black Vinyl Roof A01 Light Package (Don't know what that gets you) D41 Heavy Duty Clutch D51 2.76 Rear (I have not checked to see if it is still a 2.76) C16 Console w/Buckets C55 Bucket Seats L31 Hood/Fender Mount Turn Signal M21 Drip Moldings M25 Wide Sill Moldings M41 Dual Exhaust R11 Am Radio V6X Black Longitude Stripe The D's above may be B's as it has power disc brakes. Now to the question. I have the following items to use. I have a 69HP block out of a RR bored .030. I have KB400 Pistons balanced and ready to put in. Edelbrock Open Plenum intake. Can't remember if it is a TM6 or Torker. Holley 600 906 Heads Hooker Competition Plus Headers The engine and transmission were gone and I plan to put an automatic trans and this engine back in. Thinking of using a Comp Cams XE-268 per the tech line at Comp Cams. Just want to get a second opinion on the camshaft for street fun and good vacuum on the brakes.

That's why I figured the d codes were b codes. Thanks for the replies. Gonna look for a different intake and order the bump stick as suggested by the mfr.

JohnRR.
I already have these parts and am looking to use them. What head would you use with the pistons? What's the problem with the pistons?
Thanks

Found my receipt from 06
Degrease block, dust for cracks, pressure check, check line bore, install frost plugs, install cam bearings, deck block 9.965.
$344.90
How does .015 decking the block affect the situation?

I would rethink that manifold with your combo. Performer would work much better.
with RJS & JohnRR. A Performer is inexpensive enough and you'll be happier in the long run.

Very cool car. Sounds like you are very budget conscious. In my opinion, you will need to plow a bunch of money into that 383 to make it a really good performance engine, and I don't think that is your goal. I think everything that you are planning is okay. That cam is fine. I think changing the intake, like others have mentioned, is the one low cost item to seriously consider. However, my recommended hierarchy would be: stock intake, DP4B/Performer, Weiand dual plane. The stock intake manifold (1968 or newer) is the best choice for 383/400 drivers at this performance level.

A 2315 piston would be a zero deck , your KB 400 would be higher up and increase compression , which in this case may not be a positive .
