Just curious if anyone has put some real boost to an Indy maxx block and your experience? I'm a little worried about the 7/16 head studs clamping power. Or is it possible to convert the block to 1/2 studs and how much of a pain would it be.

I have an Indy maxx block in low deck form with a half fill and I plan to turn the power up with a precision 114 turbo. Maybe 30-35 lbs of boost

Larry Larson has 7/16s studs on his motor. ARP has a line of bad mofos for that purpose

I dont have an Indy block.
But KB strongly suggests using 1/2 inch studs if your going to throw boost at one of their blocks. I don't believe it's very hard to do. Take it to your motor machinist. They fix threads all the time in blocks. It's not much different. Just more of them

Arp for sure. Their studs are 70 ft/lbs 5 per cylinder isn't too bad. Thanks for the replies I've seen a couple koeth blacks with 1/2 studs.

Forgot to mention block is o-ringed and reciever grooves in the heads and will have copper ace head gasket

I dont know about those, but someone on here shared an issue about the small head deck studs being so close to the bore.....He had them move those further out...

you will rip the crank out of the block before you will have a headgasket problem

thanks big time but how much boost have you seen on an engine like this? I like real world experience and I am hoping to hear of some proven combos and motors. Or failed ones if that would be the case, not sure. I would think 7/16 would do the job I am going to call arp and see about there recommendations.

thanks

I am not saying you should or should not but Indy even offers the 1/2 inch studs as an option when you order them so it can be done for sure. They even stock the studs I am pretty sure.

I have never run more than 30lb in any of my mopar combo's. My indy max block /440-1 engine runs 24 now after I cracked all of the mains at 30lbs in the 572 head engine. I also have never had a head gasket issue. If you think you will just get a set of tool steel studs and use copper with o-rings and receiver grooves no reason to go 1/2" nor is there enough room between the ports. Do not create a problem trying to fix one you do not have.

thanks now that is what i am looking for. what block was the 572 built around that had main webbing or cap problems? I didn't realize your current combo runs 24 lbs that's pretty stout. And I did take a close look at the block today it gets a little too tight for the 1/2 stud. Once this motor is dialed in though I do want to turn it up and see what it will really make I am hoping it will make north of 30lbs maybe up to 35lbs.

I have 2 engines origionally they were both indy maxx blocks. Now the 572 heads sit on top of a KB block. that is the engine that is in the car now. (30lbs of boost)

We have never had any problems with the block and the head studs or head gaskets, and have been running it since 2006 boosted, and naturally aspirated between 1999 and 2006. Last summer we had max of 23 psi in the first gear and 20 psi in high gear, has been pretty much the same all the time since the first summer. We have been 144 mph at best at 1/8 mile weighing 3600.

Hi Bigtime
I was just wondering, what power adder are you using? 30lbs on what size motor?
