May have a chance to get a dana 60 center section the tubes have been cut pretty short. Where would a person get tubes to replace( what is the best thickness to have car ends welded on?

I just bought 1/4" DOM when I did mine, it turned out really nice.

Any good steel supply place should have DOM tubing.

You may know this already, but depending upon what the Dana 60 housing that you have was originally made for, it may have 3" OD tubes or 3 1/8" OD tubes so you need to determine that before ordering the tubing. In either case, the tube ends will need to be machined down slightly in order to have the proper press fit into the housing.

I used a truck center. I torched the plug welds and pulled the tubes out of the center section then welded up and machined down new 3 inch tubes to press back into the center section. Used silicone sealer when pressing then welded plugs back in and welded tubes to center section for good measure.

You should be able to get by with about 3 feet of tube if making it into a 68-70 B body housing.

Have tubing in stock,we use 3/8 DOM/CM replacement tube.

the not having holes for snubber dont bother me
It has a 4.10 gear. Open diff. But can put a locker or spool in later
What is dom? A d what would 3 foot(or how ever much is needed) cost
I have a buddy that has a jig for narrowing housings. So I know will be true when all welded up

Drawn on a mandrel as opposed welded seam or extruded.The best grade of tubing is DOM.The stuff we have is $25 per foot.If you find someone to pick it up I can donate what you need at no charge.Shipping cost would be astronomical.

I don't know what you'd need to pay for it, but but my buddy just bought a truck axle with a 4.10 in it off craigslist for $80. So they are out there. Might be easier to cut a wide truck axle, then add tubes to just a housing.

DVW (my Dad) and I did the same thing with the Dana that's in my turbo car. Used gear/bearings, slapped a Dr. Diff spool in it with a new yoke an Dr. Diff axles. $80 Strange Ford ends for explorer brakes, and away we went.

I only have about $600 into the whole thing (not including brakes because I already had them.)

I just bought a dana Thursday evening. It was narrowed for a Vega in the past and is pretty narrow. It is a car housing and has a strange spool in it. I was thinking of re-tubing it also. Kind of neat seeing this thread the very next day. Beep

Hes bout 100 miles from me so have to factor in his price in that also
Did find a guy here in town (not my buddy) that also narrows rearends on jig. Said 250 to cut down and weld on my supply ed ends. Dont know if thats a good deal or not

I've got one of the Jeep Dana 60 housings with the 2.75 axle tubs that you can have for free.
The smaller axle tubes makes the harder to deal with for narrowing.
That's why I never used it (so far).
