I got new slicks (Mickey Thompson 3055S) which are 9.0" x 28" stiffer sidewall tire. Car is a street strip 11-12 sec. I'm going to use a tube (it's recommended) with these tires.

What is the general consensus? Is it necessary to go with a MT, Hoosier or other name brand /race tube? I realize that the natural rubber tubes likely cost more for that reason. On the other hand since I’m not running Pro Stock, would a non-name brand tube be perfectly acceptable given my application?

I say a quality tube is money well spent....My Firestone Tubes are over 20 years old and they still hold air,and are in excellent condition.

You can run a standard tube with a grommet and some baby powder just fine at that level. If it 60's real hard be sure to screw the tires.

Goto your local tire shop and see what they have for standard tubes.

No bud......GET THE M/T tubes......75 bucks apiece but been that regular tube route before. Nothing worse than a tube coming apart on the way back to the pits!! Regular tubes just don't have the strength.

Agreed tried that back in the 80's and got 2 runs out of them. The tire didnt move(was screwed to the rim). Once you hold a regular tube in one hand and one designed for slicks in the other you will see why. No comparison. I too have a set that is at least 25 yrs old and still going strong.

Ok

Baby powder is the key on any tube including M/Ts. I have installed lots with MR 14/15 tubes at our tire shop, do not run a KR as they are too small for a slick that size. If your wheels are drilled for the Air/Water type stem be sure to put a grommet in.

Mickey Thompson tubes are better that's for sure, but you don't need it at that level.

I have had good luck using agriculture implement tubes. They are heavy duty and friendlier on the back pocket.

I just bought those tires and put the M/T tubes in with them.
