Yes, a manual trans ECU will not play well with an auto that needs the ECU to control the OD and torque converter lockup.
They say there are no such thing as a stupid question. They say there is always the exception that proves the rule. Don't be the exception.

On a 1990 all the computer controls is overdrive and possibly lockup. 1st-3rd and reverse are still hydraulically controlled, exactly the same as a 727 or 904. It would run the 3 gears forward and reverse with no computer at all. You have bigger problems.

You can order the correct ECM from Solo Electronics in Florida.
1970 Plymouth 'Cuda #'s 440-6(block in storage)currently 493" 6 pack, Shaker, 5 speed Passon, 4.10's 1968 Plymouth Barracuda Convertible 408 Magnum EFI with 4 speed automatic overdrive, 3800 stall lock-up converter and 4.30's (closest thing to an automatic 5 speed going)

1990 is not computer controlled with the exception of OD and the converter clutch. Unplug the connector at the trans and see if you still lose reverse. If so, its in the trans.

It's likely that the Bellville spring in the rear clutch has failed and allowed the piston to pop out of its bore and jam the clutch pack together.
