I am assuming it is possible to safely remove enough material from the heads that the lifters can be removed with the heads on? I am running comp 828-16s.
I am changing my roller lifters out before drag week this year so I will have the heads off and would like to modify them if possible. It would be super awesome if I could do it with them on the car, but I am sure its not that easy!
Thanks

Clark... I did the same thing to my W-2 heads.. the only ones that had to have work were the end sets.. can you check yours(is your intake off) to see which ones need work.. also its would make a difference on how much the deck has been cut.. if any

yes a lot depends on deck height, mine was at 9.350 and there was no way a roller lifter was coming out without pulling the heads.
70 duster full chassis super pro 416 CNC Indybrock heads 727 w/brake
best so far 1.212 60 6.219 in 1/8 at 110.88 9.768 at 137.81 1/4

I am sure the block has been cut some, as the pistons are zero deck and not custom. I'll have to pull the intake and look again. This is something I should have checked while it was apart lol.

So from my reading here the 828 lifters wont come out unless you take the heads off?
I havent checked all the different lifters but of the ones I have, I havent had all 8 sets come out without some work... on most the end sets need a bit of clearance added on the bottom of the head... this is with a minor bit of deck cut... even the center clys are close but with a bit of wiggle they come out

I pulled the motor Sunday afternoon and got the intake and rocker gear off last night. It looks like i would have to shave a good amount of meat from the heads to get the lifters out. The deck area of the head overlaps into the valley a fair amount and that is where the hold up is. I am going to check with Ryan J and see what he thinks about taking out material there. I do know if it wasn't for drag week I wouldn't be replacing anything. 5000ish miles on this valvetrain(other than the springs) and it all looks great. I figured its best to swap in some new lifters and send these to comp to be checked out rather than wait for them to fail

If I recall you blocked off the oil to the lifters and just use the return oil to lube them... what do you idle at(rpm) and what is your spring pressure
