There is a lot of slop in this shifter on my buddy's car (A833) and we wanna tighten it up a bit. I'd rather buy one than have ours rebuilt.
Also...because I have played with 727s all my life...how hard is it to do the adjustment on the linkages of the shifter? Is there a walkthrough to follow somewhere?

I had Hurst rebuild mine a while back('92). The price has tripled since then. Brewers has the whole parts kit for sale and I'd go with that for original appearance, otherwise Hurst sells new shifters and pistol grips. And it's very simple to get the rods adjusted, check a service manual.

Would you recommend getting new shift linkages along with the shifter mechanism? Maybe the ends of the linkages are worn out? I imagine so since many of the other parts on this car seem to have been junkyard scores and installed to sell the car quick...the linkages may have an issue as well...its this dude's dream car so i don't think the car is going anywhere anytime soon

I mentioned it to my buddy and its his decision. It's 299 for the shifter with the stops and 149 for the rod kit from Brewers. It used to be a console car but it looked awful so we removed it and put the boot and bezel on the floor...looks much much nicer

Is the shifter itself sloppy? The OE one in my 65 was sloppy and loose shiftibg.I was going to have it rebuilt.Through the years the factory rod pins that hold them to the arms were either gone or worn and cotter pins used.I got the Hurst kit with new clips and bushings.I couldnt believe how tight the shifting got.Its still in the car and shifts great.65 Ma used a good Hurst with stops.Rocky

I can feel slop in the shifting but I don't have anything to compare it to as all my cars have been automatics. It surely can't hurt anything doing it now, correctly, so it lasts 2 more decades
