I am about to purchase a new oil pump for my 1969 Road Runner 383 auto with AC. The car is stock so I am not looking for a higher performance pump, unless it is recommended. As I understand the HP pumps are thicker, does that cause any problems?
Thanks for any help

I run standard volume pumps, that's all that's needed. That's all you need.

Standard volume pump is fine , if you go to a HV pump you need longer bolts .

A std vol/std psi sealed power or other parts house pump is fine. I would take your feeler gauges & check the several clearances (easy to do/assembly line mistakes do happen). I'd use a normal wt of oil & see what you end up with for psi & 8lbs per 1K RPM is fine for a DD & even a low # at idle is OK IF it jumps up immediately when you get on it

There is no set answer to this question, if the standard volume pump produces acceptable pressure throughout the rpm/temperature it's obviously OK.

But if, due to loose clearances, the pressure drops off with temperature, a HV pump is called for. Luckily, on a BB it's changeable in situ.
