I came across some posts on other Mopar boards about solid roller lifter that MRL Performance came out with maybe a year ago. Anyone here use them in big blocks, in particular blocks with unbushed lifter bores?

MRL also offers two different types, one with a standard .750 wheel and an upgrade that has a .815". Is there really a performance benefit to a larger wheel or is it just better durability by spreading the load out a little more?

I just ordered the small block version.

It was explained to me the bigger roller will distribute the weight better but the smaller roller will work if the valve train is set up properly...I went for the smaller roller.

I'm cheap.

Check and see if the roller wheel you want will work with your cam. Different diameters change the rate of lift and may be too fast or too slow for best performance.

Yes, I saw these as well. I will be in the market later this year for a set of rollers, and the advertising sure seems good on these. Does anyone know who manufactures these lifters?

I'd like to see a pic comparing the two versions of big-block lifters. I Googled around some after seeing this topic and found one for the small-block lifters, but the big-block lifter pics look a bit different than the small-block stuff (not just the link bars).

Mike told me they're made here by a couple of ex-crane engineers. IIRC they retired down in Florida and got bored lol.

I have spoken with Mike about the small block ones...he explained to me the cheaper ones (pro sports) have a narrower roller and were only good for up to 650lbs open spring pressure...the more expensive ones (pro plus) use a wider wheel and can take more spring pressure, and also have a lightened body...Price difference is $480 compared to $620 I think it was?

I am going to order a set, just have to find the time to get the old valvesprings off of my heads, decide what springs I am going to use and see the pressures before I choose which ones I will go with.

Think of it just like rollout on a tire. Now approach a bump in the road with a really tall tire or a really short tire. Does that change the way the car "feels" across the bump........yes sir, big time.

Thank -You Monte and Brad. I learned something today. Never ever thought about roller size and the efects it causes to the cam.

I just recieved a set of his Pro Sport lifter. They look pretty good the machining is great. I decided agaist the pros because my piston to valve clearance is on the tight side now(int-.060/ex-.090)and I didn't want to loose any. I don't think the roller on the Pros are wider, just a larger diameter with larger diameter roller bearings. The box said BAM Products. The engineers name is Brad Miller. Hopefully they hold up well. I usually don't like to be a guinea pig, but the price is great and they have the good features.

Cam company says my lobes will work with .750 to .825 roller wheels.

Can the MRL's be used in a small block without the bores being bushed or the lifter galley oil passage being blocked off?

If you're still looking for the answer, you're better off contacting MRL directly.
