Rustoleum use to make one that was virtually identical but they have changed their formula and the new one appears to be a metalic rather than metal colored.

if it's not a 3 or 4 season vehicle would RPM be sufficient?

I'm not convinced RPM is right for one that will be driven. I really don't have a reason, I just have concerns. I need to see how it stands up in use for awhile. A properly painted surface will hold up and can be cleaned regularly.

Read here if you are considering the painted faux metal look:

https://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/show...&PHPSESSID=

Buy some RPM and try some of the paint methods in the thread above and make a decision that works for you.

Good thread but being 7 years old I will have to see what is still available. Fortunately I did my arms several years ago when I could still get the Rustoleum. I used the Eastwood tint to duplicate the cosmoline, orange and gold if I remember correctly. I also use 6 different colors of cast to duplicate the variance in nature cast parts, that why no 2 parts that bolt together are the exact same shade.

Seymour's stainless steel paint has a good color plus some rust inhibitors

Thank you, not familiar with that brand, who carries it? Rattle can or sprayable?

Seymour Stainless Steel is the exact same paint as Eastwood's Detail Gray...except it doesn't have Eastwood's logo and markup on it.

Cleaned them very carefully so there is zero rust, then covered ALL in clear coat.Even inside the clamps..Dont mind the bolts..

Testing these to see how good they hold up against rust.. paint vs RPM.

Been there, done that, even with top dollar clear automotive finishes.....It will rust eventually under the clear...sorry

I've had the best long term results in "clearing" raw steel for cars that will get driven, often, with this....

Time out, I was thinking the tie rod sleeves were black, at least on AARs. Am I wrong???

Most of them were natural steel and some tubes has a darker finish to them. A few were painted from factory i belive.

anything with threads was unlikely to be dipped or painted
imagine assembling these parts if the threads were full of paint
tie rods sprayed black would not get much paint in the threads
i've seen both..

Currently I have my sleeves semi-gloos black (sprayed) and my tie rods raw (cast). To my understanding this is correct, or I guess from what ya'll are saying is an acceptable version.

Looking at Eastwoods website, I see that they have clear powder coatings with different levels of gloss. I wonder if anyone has done their clear over bare metal? Seems like that would hold up better than spray...if you could get the correct look. I have one of the Eastwood powder coat kits but have never used clear, just colors.

Hey Mike,
Do you flatten the gloss on that? The can reads it to be glossy and Im afraid its going to be too shiney.
Im looking to protect the front spring hangers which are raw steel and will be driving the car more than trailering so I want something on them.

The 'inhibitors' don't last...

If you use it, you'll have to swab with penetrating oil every once in a while...

Been there, done that...
