Tough Crowd.. Sure things were not that great, but better than nothing.. RIGHT?? There will not be a Friday Night Drags this Friday... https://www.facebook.com/racewildhorse/posts/748508151827898?notif_t=notify_meIf any of you have ideas, not complaints, then put it here on the facebook pages.. They do read them.. Victoria Griffey is handling some of this stuff and she is on top of things.. https://www.facebook.com/WildHorseMotorsportsParkhttps://www.facebook.com/racewildhorseThe track was great, and handled everything that was thrown at it.. 6.15 @ 225 mph for Top Dragster and some 7 sec. passes from Top Sportsman.. The time slip deal was an accident where wires were cut.. The tree will be upgraded and scoreboards will be put up.. Who do any of you know that will put over 1 MILLION dollars into a facility?? Not me.... Lots of talkers but no doers.. I remember back last year when the track closed and Speedworld was closed, there was a whole bunch of whining.... Think positive.. And give them ideas.. That helps much more.. Give them time.. Remember that Charlie basically gutted that place.. They are starting over.. Spending lots of $$$$$$$.. Buying the best equipment etc.. I met the management, and they are a great upgrade from Charlie Allen.. Also the PA system being used was the old pieced together system, and the new one is being worked on daily.. We will be racing the Arizona Super Street race this Saturday even if there are no scoreboards or time slips yet.. BTW.. They posted on their Facebook page that the time slips and PA system were not working prior to Friday Night.. So it wasn't a surprise to me.. And.... They were not expecting over 450 cars last Friday night.. Jeez, that's like a division race.. It was a record for that race track.. Chris..

Hey Raul, missed you in tech also. Say, do you know if people can get in to spectate when the Pro Stock cars will be doing some T&Ting in Feb on 3,4,5? Got no responses from WildHores on this.

First, I want to clarify that my list was constructive criticism, not bashing or whining. I was glad to have a place less than 3+ hours away. Obviously with the turnout, I was not alone in this. We came and supported it. We will again in the future, unless it gets worse. The list was an attempt to give perspective for the track and let others who were not there know that there are issues. I sure hope they can all be resolved, and the track personnel were all great. I don't 'do' facebook, so I hope that someone that does shares their experiences.
As for the guy that said "40 years ago..." I bet it wasn't $90 bucks for 2 drivers, one crew and one spectator back then either! Again, I'm not complaining, we had nice paved pits, good people to talk to, and we would have burned that much more towing to Vegas or Tucson. It ain't the old days is all.
Chris, we were out there doin' it!

We have a tech meeting to get recertified on Friday night. I'll ask about spectators when the Pro's test next week.
Raul
They did announce that spectators would be allowed for the pro stock MC and car testing.

Hey John..
I know you were there, Billy D said he talked to you for awhile.. And NO, I did not take your post as whining or complaining..
I think they need input, as they continually ask for it..
No, it's definitely not the old days..
But for $30.00 to race your car.. Really not too bad these days..
I read your ideas and like I said, you can put them on their Facebook page or contact Victoria here>>> VictoriaTWHP@aol.com
BTW that White 65 Blown Belvedere was very cool..
Here's to hoping that Saturday is much better..

I met the new management as well, Chris. I told them your favorite spot to pit was at the back corner of the bowl, so you could watch the cars come around the corner onto the return road. They said they would do everything they could to reserve that spot for you...

You're on target! Critiquing anything can be - painful, but management should welcome the input - positive or negative. They need to know what we expect and where improvements should and need to be made.

:
Some of the excuses for the condition of this facility opening night does not fly.
This is a business and a business has paying customers. Can you imagine if the casinos on the Gila River would have opened in this half baked not ready condition to it's customers? They would go else where. The only thing is, this is the only game in town so die hard racers will come back no matter what. But what about newbie customers who showed up in a street car Friday night with their pals to try a shot a drag racing?
Defending the poor decision to open a business before it ready to hit the ground running is wrong. Glitches happen, that's understandable but it sounds like this was a rush to get revenue coming it.
"Who do any of you know that will put over 1 MILLION dollars into a facility?? Not me...."
Seeing this is a national event track, if Bruton Smith or Bill Bader had anything to with it a million would be chump change.
"And.... They were not expecting over 450 cars last Friday night.. Jeez, that's like a division race.. It was a record for that race track."
Opening night 1983 had way more cars. And talk about half baked, there was no tower only a construction trailer!
I really do hope the best for WHP to become an enjoyable place to race and spectate at.

Track was better this last Saturday.. Time slips were good and the staging bulbs fixed.. Except the 1000' didn't work in the right lane.. The scoreboards are supposed to go in this week.. Weird racing with no scoreboards or win lights.. Kind of Stealthy.. Mike Rice was there and helped get things more organized.. They finally got smart and had us enter @ gate 3 so the trailers won't wind up blocking the road.. Someone was thinking.. We had fun and the Barracuda ran well.. Except when the rear brake caliper fell off in the pits.. Oh, and our belts were expired on Friday @ midnight.... Guess I missed that one.. Going out again Saturday the 8th.. Another AZ. S/ST race.. Chris..
