Should be a great time - if not an absolute madhouse with about 1,000 cars showing up. I might try and give it a shot on Sunday. I had hoped to get some timeslips to see if recent changes helped anything - but I guess I'll just have to use the tried and true "butt-dyno" to try and tell.

Re: Firebird / Wild Horse Raceway Park Open This Weekend - 10/01/13 01:07 AM

Chris,

There is a chance the event will not happen this weekend. I was at a meeting this past Saturday at the track. I, along with other former employees of Firebird and Speed World are being rehired. Today I spoke with one of the managers at the track. The starting line is a mess and they need to lay down new rubber. They are trying to rent or borrow the equipment to do this. So far they have not had any luck. If they can not get rubber on the track they will cancel the event. They do not want to have cars show up and try to run on a bad track. I agree with them.

On a better note they advised they will purchase PJ-1 traction compound instead of the cheaper (and lousy) VHT Lane Choice. This is a step in the right direction.

I will post their final decision as soon as I get it.

Victoria, and the Downings are saying it's a go on Facebook.. Guess we'll see..

Also, whoever Rick Unterseh is, he is saying the track will be prepped..

Hope it goes.. There are a lot of guys with "Cabin Fever" around here..

good deal on the traction compound change. I'm broke, but trying to talk my wife in to running her Roadster. She is a little intimidated with the track thing, but I haven't given up yet.

It is a go for this weekend at Wild Horse Pass. They are running both days. They just asked me to work at the starting line both days. I'm going to test a new converter on Sunday.

Hey Raul, wife will be running her 27 roadster Sunday. She has never been down a track before. Help her out please. Without the normal lights, she could be lining up at the 1/8 mile marker.

Re: Firebird / Wild Horse Raceway Park Open This Weekend - 10/04/13 01:12 AM

She needs to have a helmet, with a face shield or a full face helmet to take a roadster down the track. She will be OK without arm restraints since there is no timing system. I'll look out for her and make sure she gets a good run.

See you all there.

CARQUEST Auto Parts Nationals February 21-23
Div. 7 First Race Wild Horse Pass Raceway Park Chandler, Ariz. February 28-March 2

I hope they are able to get the track ready for the Summit races they have scheduled, my fear is that they will not be ready until the National, and that event will be plagued by massive problems and Phoenix Drag Racing will get another black eye.

With Speedworld closed, and the length of time this track has been closed, I have to think that Jan 25th date will be packed!

They need to have a couple of slicks-only TnT days/nights before they try to start holding races again to make sure they get the bugs worked out of everything.

Well I was thinking of hitting the Arizona S/ST association race the 25th but now I think I will sit that one out. I sure hope thy get this done in time and the track has some teeth by the National event. We will be there running it along with the division race which appears to be a single not a double this year?!?

Good to see progress. I was starting to wonder if it was going to suffer the same fate as Speedworld. I may have to get up there this season to mix things up a bit. It would be interesting to see how they run things compared to S.I.R.

The track needs to sit for 30 days for the concrete to cure. Since it is not even poured yet, I'm not sure about and races in January. There is only 1 divisional at Wild Horse Pass this year.

February 28-March 2
Wild Horse Pass Raceway Park
Chandler, Ariz

West Region

March 1-3
Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park

I assumed it was still a double based on the two schedules listing different days, but I realize now they have the regional scheduled on Monday.

There will be both a divisional race and a regional race the weekend of Feb 28 to Mar 3, pretty much like last year. 2 races in a 4 day span. Last year there were so many entries that we were shorted one TT at one of the events (Don't remember if it was the divisional or regional race).

I just got off the phone with my boss at the track.. He said all the old concrete will be gone by the end of the day. They are still planning to have their first race on 1/18. There is only one divisional. Her will check on what is posted on their website.

I assume it is a double but on the schedule it is only listed as being over a three day span. No way we run two races over three days. I also saw the regional which is the way it has been over the last couple of years. Double divisional with a regional over the Saturday and Sunday. Meant to ask Rice this last Saturday but forgot.

Re: Firebird / Wild Horse Raceway Park Open This Weekend - 12/20/13 11:07 PM

I just drove over to see if the track surface was gone. Yessir it is!

But now thanks to the rain - they can't do anything to it until the water goes away. It's a second lake now.

Wow--that looks like a mess! I would think it will take some time and effort to get the soil compaction back where it should be.

What WHP is showing on their calendar mirrors what was done last year--Divisional qualifying on Thur, Divisional Eliminations on Fri, then Regional qualifying on Sat, and Regional Elims on Sunday. So the true dates look like they are Feb 27 and 28, and Mar 1 and 2.

Just for grins - I just drove over to the track to check on the progress. No concrete yet - but they have been compacting the gravel base. So it should be done soon. I seriously doubt we're going to see anybody make any passes in January - but hopefully SOMEBODY will get down the track before the travelling circus gets there.

Sure hope they make alot of progress soon. Starting to look like the National Event maybe on a green racetrack. They seem to be pushing that first race back farther and farther. Really wanted to hit one of the AZ S/ST races before the National but not looking good now as I also don't wanna be the guinea pig on a green track.

Good luck in Tucson. I just got my new engine in the car yesterday. Unfortunately my tranny needs some new parts(the expensive aluminum ones) and they are on back order at Pro Trans. If I can't get the tranny back in time I will have to borrow a spare from my engine builder.

Update.. Jan. 5th 2014

We were at their lunch Sunday and got good first hand info..

Saw the track with my own peepers..

Anyway, they WILL be finished with the concrete Tues. Jan 7th.

The guys doing this are not amateurs in the concrete business.. Baker Construction has done 8 NHRA National tracks.
The man in charge of this construction said the track will be ready by the 25th of Jan. (Summit ET Series) "IF" there is no cold rain storm in the next couple weeks.

Anyway, we will be there racing Feb. 1st and Feb. 8th "IF" the weather cooperates. (Arizona S/ST)

Hopefully some rubber will be put down on the 24th& 25th of Jan.

Other notes.. A new PA system is being installed ($85,000.00) and will be able to be heard even out by the lake.. Al Alguire..

The Concrete has cost over $375,000.00 thus far.. It is over 12" thick with rebar and will stop just past the 660' mark.. (About 700')

The crap that was removed was only about 5" thick and NO rebar..

There is a new digital scale, and it works.. Our Dodge Dually weighs about 7027# with 2 passengers.. lol (They said we could drive on it)

New scoreboards will be put in shortly with the numbers 4' tall. Green in color I think they said.. And to the .0001..

Also...... SUNOCO will be the race fuel sold at the track.

So, it looks like we'll be racing soon..

Kinda what I have been thinking all along. Simply not enough days ot run two races with those dates. Would be nice if he woudl post that clarification on the website as MANY people assume it is a double still. Kinda sucks as I liked the two fer deal. Looks like we will have one less race to determine the Jeg's All Star rep as well now. Kinda sucks for me, but oh well.

Re: Firebird / Wild Horse Raceway Park Open This Weekend - 01/17/14 11:42 PM

I know we did two races in four days the last two years. Just aint running two races in three days and Feb 28-Mar 2 is three days no matter how ya slice it. The last two years we started on Wednesday with the T&T. Starting with T&T on Thursday is our normal Div 7 schedule for a single race. We have T&T Thursday and quailing/practice on Friday and Saturday. Traditionally that will be two runs one day one on the other day. Kinda why I have been saying all along that it appeared to be a SINGLE division race not a double.

Yeah, that virgin concrete is begging for some abuse!

I just really hope they are able to get the track to hook well enough this first "outing" with the new surface that people don't have "issues" that require body work or cleanup. In any event - I'll be out there whether I have to tippy-toe it or not.

Kind of why I am not partaking in the first two weekends of racing. If the reports are good I will come down for the AZ S/ST race on the 8th.

MoparBilly and I will be there Friday night to try out the new surface.
Sure will feel good to make pass in the car again, I have made some changes to the Dart so I hope the starting line is prepped well.

Glad to hear this and will pass it along.
The guys are planning on the first A/FX run the first weekend in April and would obviously like to get some TnT in before then.

Another friend is doing the Fling in Vegas that weekend so I will probably be there.

Re: Firebird / Wild Horse Raceway ..TRACK DONE - 01/24/14 05:36 AM

I went and walked the track this afternoon - while they were putting on a new set of slicks for the "rubbering-in" tractor - or whatever it's called. They have quite a bit of rubber down already and the horizontal striations in the concrete look like it will make it hook pretty well. The track is NOT all white and virgin concrete now. I'm sure after 300 cars descend on the track tomorrow night - it will get quite a bit of rubber down.

I'm betting I get 2 passes in 6 hours if nobody oils the track down.

I have my rig loaded and headed out the door as soon as I get off work tomorrow.

See you guys there!

I will be out Saturday AM - if I can find a tow vehicle . The local dealer has my Jeep in the shop. It was supposed to be ready yesterday. Then I was informed they broke off a head bolt and will have to remove the head to get it out. I'm bummed!!! Wife won't let me carry right now.

I'm taking off work early. I see they moved the gate opening time from 6:00pm to 5:00pm. I need a burnt rubber and octane FIX! I'll just be spectating as my junk is still in a million pieces.

I've made good progress this winter though. The engine is sitting on the stand, (Thanks, Brian @ IMM) and the painter has the body in finish prime, color next week. Maybe late March, April for test n tune.

I think they made it 3-pairs into the night before one of them oiled the track - from the starting line to the turnoff. I don't know who it was, but I'm pretty sure it was a street car.

I hope everybody has a better time of it tomorrow. I can tell you that it really sucks having too many cars at the track - and NOT giving out timeslips unless you park your car somewhere and climb the stairs to get it from the tower. Not good!

Crizila, I saw your car at the Mopars Unlimited car show at Metro Center, but never got to meet you. Beautiful ride! I had my FK5 Challenger R/T there. Hope to catch you at a race soon.

Duner, This article says a contractor cut some lines to the new timing system. I guess that's why we had to go to the tower for slips.
http://www.arizonaautoscene.com/archives/32287
It was great to meet you as well. All in all, I had a good time. Ran my daily driver Ram 1500 R/T for giggles. I got a 14.88@92 mph, not too bad for a stock 5000 lb truck.
They definitely have some growing pains, but it's great to have the track back.

Re: Firebird / Wild Horse Raceway Park Open This Weekend - 01/26/14 02:19 AM

Yeah, no scoreboards either… so nobody could even just TELL you how fast you went. LOL

I'm sure it will get better. I'm just happy that a functioning racetrack will be back soon!
Posted By: Duner

Re: Firebird / Wild Horse Raceway Park Open This Weekend - 01/26/14 02:25 AM

OK. A cut line running to the timing shack would be the answer then.

My hooptie got a new best last night with a 10.57 @ 128 mph. I saw people were spinning badly - so I traded MPH for ET and added 200# of ballast - which netted me a 1.46 60' anyway! That's the best 60' I've gotten at a friday night TnT at Firebird. It's gone a 1.43 at SIR. I was pretty happy with my decision to add that ballast when I let go of the button and the end of the track disappeared from view! LOL

Good job on that number for your Ram!

Re: Firebird / Wild Horse Raceway Park Open This Weekend - 01/26/14 08:02 PM

Went yesterday. First day blues with the electronics, but the track was okay, if green.
One guy put his car on the roof (he's okay) and there were a few cleanups.

Got one car working better, the other still lays down on top.

Checklist for the track to fix.
Timing booth didn't work.
timing slips with no names, cut in half at the tower
No radio
no scoreboard.
No pre-stage lights by late afternoon.
No tech cards when paying, had to go back to get them.
Staging Lanes not marked
Ladders hand made on paper (nobody brought a laptop?)
Fix that stupid, over-long name!

Improvements all tracks can make.

In tech, make each car start, and load up on the converter, then shut off. Many of the minor leaks can be caught before it gets to the track.

have a dry easel or chalkboard with the classes listed in order of run times, updated as the day goes on. If you are going to call a class and then make them sit for 2 hours, you are going to annoy the racers and (rightly) receive a less timely response. Also the staging lanes tend to get messy!

I really am tired of the juniors and all the time and space (car, golf cart w/pullback, starter, 2-3 people each) it takes to run that class. The kids are the most pro of them. Mama and the other 2 kids tend to be the worst.

A great sound system next to the tower but bad further out is useless when you can't hear it over the burnouts and runs up close and nothing further out.
Have another set of scoreboards on the tower, facing the area where most racers congregate (lanes) so they can keep track of others. Having the announcer say "and Bill made a GREAT run, 9>cue burnout drowning out the rest<".
Posted By: Duner

Re: Firebird / Wild Horse Raceway Park Open This Weekend - 01/26/14 09:30 PM

For the TnT deals they also need to understand that the slick-tire guys have to be able to get to the slick lanes. They felt the need to block that - so you couldn't get there with the street cars not understanding lane designations or even that there were lanes painted on the blacktop.

The safety/cleanup crew also didn't understand how to get from the top of the track back to the starting line. Trying to get there by going into the back of the staging lanes and waiting for some cars to clear out was a disaster waiting to happen. I'm sure that was just because this was their first race - and quite possibly nobody told them how or where to get back.

Re: Firebird / Wild Horse Raceway Park Open This Weekend - 01/26/14 10:30 PM

"Bad day in black rock" yesterday for me. First trip down the track and the alternator decided not to work above 5,000 rpm. My ignition don't work on 12 volts, so lots of candles went out. Made one more pass to verify the problem - shifting way early at 6200 rpm. Car farted down the track to a 10.71 @ 126.31. My spare alternator sat in the attic at home, so my day was over. I thought the track prep was excellent on Saturday - everything else was a little f--ked up - second pass down the track not until 2.30pm ???? ET slips in a bucket at the tower????? When you pay good $ to race, that crap shouldn't be going on. Understand the pro stock cars, will be doing some T&Ting at Wildhorse on Feb 3,4,5. Anyone know if the track will be open to spectators on those days?

Boy some of you guys are pretty tough on a track that just re-opened. Glad you guys weren't racing almost 40 years ago when I started with no score boards, no reaction times, and hand written time slips. Give them some time guys and good support instead of negative and it will be better for everyone.
Posted By: Duner

Re: Firebird / Wild Horse Raceway Park Open This Weekend - 01/27/14 05:51 PM

I think it's more constructive criticism than it is negativity. They NEED to know what needs to be fixed. They DO have some of the same crew - and those people had ZERO problems doing what needed to be done. (I saw Raul in tech - but he was too busy for me to interrupt him.) They just probably weren't in a position to help fix some of the issues that cropped up or be able to add their input so the track could benefit from their experience.

I have no doubts that all the issues will be addressed and fixed… they were just magnified by the overwhelming crush of people wanting to get a pass down the track. It's quite possible that a good portion of them didn't even know they were supposed to get a timeslip.

But like I said earlier - I'm just glad to have a track back in the Phx area.
Posted By: Al_Alguire

Re: Firebird / Wild Horse Raceway Park Open This Weekend - 01/27/14 06:29 PM

Well they have a national event that is going to be run there in 4 weeks. Sure hope they can get all the issues ironed out by then. They have had a number of months to this point and with only 4 weeks left I am well a bit skeptical it will go off smoothly. Told my wife yesterday I plan on it being more of a cluster than usual for the National and Divisional races. Oh well what ya gonna do other than hope they get it all ready.

Re: Firebird / Wild Horse Raceway Park Open This Weekend - 01/27/14 06:30 PM

BTW I cannot imagine how you can race with no prestage lites. I know I would be taking FOREVER to stage if I were racing. That's alot of bumping with only one lite working.
Posted By: pittsburghracer

Re: Firebird / Wild Horse Raceway Park Open This Weekend - 01/27/14 06:41 PM

We have an issue (mostly dragsters) at PRP where they do their burn-out and back just thru the fully staged bulbs (1-2 inches) and the second you prestage they bump in real quick. Legal yes, but in my eyes very unsportsmen like. They always hold up the door cars in the water box but that won't be happening to me this year.
Posted By: Al_Alguire

Re: Firebird / Wild Horse Raceway Park Open This Weekend - 01/27/14 06:45 PM

Yeah that is not the most sportmanlike way to do things. However for those who do it you and you know it I cannot see it being an issue. OR you can come up with your own strategy to not allow them to do it such as stage while they back up..

You pays yo $, so you lived up to your part of the bargain. IMO, they didn't. They had the time. Just too much stuff not right. Good thing it wasn't 90+ degrees out - while everyone was stuck in staging for way too long - over and over. As I said, my second pass was not until 2:30 in the afternoon. As Al said, 4 more weeks and the big boys will be running. Guarantee they won't be rolling over like us little guys.

Oh ya. We currently have 5-6 people doing this and it will be dealt with in my own way. I am glad I started racing almost 40 years ago and not now. The amount of guys that think it is OK to smoke pot during the race day would startle you. Attend a race with open eyes and nose and its scary what you will see going on.

Re: Firebird / Wild Horse Raceway Park Open This Weekend - 01/27/14 09:07 PM

Here is my take on the Friday night opening. It should have been postponed. The track was not ready to open. None of the systems were properly checked. They knew there were issues that they could not fix in time. Those of us that have worked there for a long time know how to make things work. Unfortunately the new management has no experience and unfortunately it showed. I knew things would be bad when they waited until Wednesday to see which of us could work. When I got there things were not any better. I had to argue with one of the supposed security people(I don't know where the got them, but they were clueless)who would not let me in unless I pad an entry fee. After trying several times to convince him that I am an employee trying to get to work I just drove past him.

For those that came to race, all I can say is I am sorry for the disorganization and the fact that the electrical systems did not work. Given the opportunity, I am sure we, the workers, can and will make things better.

On a brighter note, NHRA, and not the track, will be in charge for the National, and hopefully Divisional event. I will be racing at those events, and I hope all goes well.

Sorry I didn't go back up the tech line to at least say hi! You looked plenty busy and I was hoping for a decent pit spot. hehehe

The way I see it - YOU have nothing to be sorry for at all. You were doing your job. Unfortunately, the new management obviously didn't seek any advice or direction from anybody that's been there before. LOL

Do you think they will have any of the systems fixed and running by next weekend?

Re: Firebird / Wild Horse Raceway Park Open This Weekend - 01/27/14 11:36 PM

Yes the NHRA will be in charge for the National event, but timing issues and PA system problems will be an issue if not fixed by the track beforehand. The NHRA brings in sound for the fans but not the racers, that is using the tracks PA. For the division it is race run the track but, ie ticketing parking etc. The NHRA runs tech and the actual track surface but the track will be in charge of the rest. Hope it all goes well. I will be there for both no matter.

The again thing is next Saturday - if you are racing the summit series. No excuse for things like the staging lane screw-ups - and not even having the lanes numbered. Bottom line, the racers ( who are paying the track wages ) got dumped on a bit. People that worked there knew they weren't ready. Gotta assume management did also.

I was trying to explain to management why they needed the "slick lane" access because the street tire cars had the lanes clogged up… but I have no idea if my "suggestions" were even heard. Unfortunately - there WILL be a learning curve. Hopefully we won't suffer thru too many mistakes as the new management learns what it's all about. They HAVE people who know how it's supposed to work - but there appears to be zero listening to them. Hopefully they will get the electronics and timeslip printer issues worked out in the next week.

Tough Crowd..

Sure things were not that great, but better than nothing.. RIGHT??

There will not be a Friday Night Drags this Friday...

https://www.facebook.com/racewildhorse/posts/748508151827898?notif_t=notify_me

If any of you have ideas, not complaints, then put it here on the facebook pages.. They do read them..

Victoria Griffey is handling some of this stuff and she is on top of things..

https://www.facebook.com/WildHorseMotorsportsPark

https://www.facebook.com/racewildhorse

The track was great, and handled everything that was thrown at it..

6.15 @ 225 mph for Top Dragster and some 7 sec. passes from Top Sportsman..

The time slip deal was an accident where wires were cut..

The tree will be upgraded and scoreboards will be put up..

Who do any of you know that will put over 1 MILLION dollars into a facility?? Not me....

Lots of talkers but no doers.. I remember back last year when the track closed and Speedworld was closed, there was a whole bunch of whining....
Think positive.. And give them ideas.. That helps much more..

Give them time.. Remember that Charlie basically gutted that place.. They are starting over..

Spending lots of $$$$$$$.. Buying the best equipment etc..

I met the management, and they are a great upgrade from Charlie Allen..

Also the PA system being used was the old pieced together system, and the new one is being worked on daily..

We will be racing the Arizona Super Street race this Saturday even if there are no scoreboards or time slips yet..

BTW.. They posted on their Facebook page that the time slips and PA system were not working prior to Friday Night.. So it wasn't a surprise to me..

And.... They were not expecting over 450 cars last Friday night.. Jeez, that's like a division race..

It was a record for that race track..

Hey Raul, missed you in tech also. Say, do you know if people can get in to spectate when the Pro Stock cars will be doing some T&Ting in Feb on 3,4,5? Got no responses from WildHores on this.

Re: Firebird / Wild Horse Raceway Park Open This Weekend - 01/28/14 06:36 AM

First, I want to clarify that my list was constructive criticism, not bashing or whining. I was glad to have a place less than 3+ hours away. Obviously with the turnout, I was not alone in this.
We came and supported it. We will again in the future, unless it gets worse. The list was an attempt to give perspective for the track and let others who were not there know that there are issues. I sure hope they can all be resolved, and the track personnel were all great.
I don't 'do' facebook, so I hope that someone that does shares their experiences.

As for the guy that said "40 years ago..." I bet it wasn't $90 bucks for 2 drivers, one crew and one spectator back then either! Again, I'm not complaining, we had nice paved pits, good people to talk to, and we would have burned that much more towing to Vegas or Tucson. It ain't the old days is all.

Chris, we were out there doin' it!

We have a tech meeting to get recertified on Friday night. I'll ask about spectators when the Pro's test next week.

They did announce that spectators would be allowed for the pro stock MC and car testing.

Hey John..

I know you were there, Billy D said he talked to you for awhile.. And NO, I did not take your post as whining or complaining..

I think they need input, as they continually ask for it..

No, it's definitely not the old days..

But for $30.00 to race your car.. Really not too bad these days..

I read your ideas and like I said, you can put them on their Facebook page or contact Victoria here>>> VictoriaTWHP@aol.com

BTW that White 65 Blown Belvedere was very cool..

Here's to hoping that Saturday is much better..

Victoria Griffey is handling some of this stuff and she is on top of things..

The track was great, and handled everything that was thrown at it..

6.15 @ 225 mph for Top Dragster and some 7 sec. passes from Top Sportsman..

I met the management, and they are a great upgrade from Charlie Allen..

We will be racing the Arizona Super Street race this Saturday even if there are no scoreboards or time slips yet..

And.... They were not expecting over 450 cars last Friday night.. Jeez, that's like a division race..

It was a record for that race track..

Chris..

I met the new management as well, Chris. I told them your favorite spot to pit was at the back corner of the bowl, so you could watch the cars come around the corner onto the return road. They said they would do everything they could to reserve that spot for you...

You're on target! Critiquing anything can be - painful, but management should welcome the input - positive or negative. They need to know what we expect and where improvements should and need to be made.

We had a fun time even with all of the issues. It's nice to have a place to race period. I'm sure they'll get the timing issues fixed eventually. Hey, the PA system actually worked! I had my son and grandpa ride bicycles all the way down to the tower to retrieve my losing, first round time slip out of the bucket they had hanging from the balcony. On that slip I learned that I went red -001. Oh well better luck next time. We'll be back again this Saturday.

" It's nice to have a place to race period". Sorry, but that aint enough IMO. Hope track management doesn't take that mind set. The racers need to set the bar for them, or another track needs to open to replace Speedworld, so they aint the only game in town. Pic = how I spent my Saturday.

:

Some of the excuses for the condition of this facility opening night does not fly.

This is a business and a business has paying customers. Can you imagine if the casinos on the Gila River would have opened in this half baked not ready condition to it's customers? They would go else where. The only thing is, this is the only game in town so die hard racers will come back no matter what. But what about newbie customers who showed up in a street car Friday night with their pals to try a shot a drag racing?

Defending the poor decision to open a business before it ready to hit the ground running is wrong. Glitches happen, that's understandable but it sounds like this was a rush to get revenue coming it.

"Who do any of you know that will put over 1 MILLION dollars into a facility?? Not me...."

Seeing this is a national event track, if Bruton Smith or Bill Bader had anything to with it a million would be chump change.

"And.... They were not expecting over 450 cars last Friday night.. Jeez, that's like a division race..
It was a record for that race track."

Opening night 1983 had way more cars. And talk about half baked, there was no tower only a construction trailer!

I really do hope the best for WHP to become an enjoyable place to race and spectate at.

Re: Firebird / Wild Horse Raceway Park Open This Weekend - 01/28/14 10:20 PM

I think they made a poor decision opening before it was all ready…. but there's no changing that now. I have no doubts they'll have more teething problems as well. That's just how things go. They will get it all together somewhere along the way if they really want to. In any event - the hardcore drag racers here in the valley will continue to flock to the track in record numbers now that there is only 1 place to go race - at least for awhile. The track will either figure out a way to accommodate the larger crowds and street cars or the people will get discouraged and quit coming. The hardcore racers will continue either way… but you know the track really wants all those street cars to continue to come as well.

If the new management team has the proper attitude, and vision, all will be fine there.............

Even with the issues, I'm glad they opened. We have a limited time to test before racing and we made progress in a safe, friendly environment. We also got some wise words from a couple racers to try out.
Crizila, I admired your car from afar, if I had known it was you, I would have said Hi!

Re: Firebird / Wild Horse Raceway Park Open This Weekend - 02/03/14 03:59 PM

Track was better this last Saturday..

Time slips were good and the staging bulbs fixed.. Except the 1000' didn't work in the right lane..

The scoreboards are supposed to go in this week..

Weird racing with no scoreboards or win lights..

Kind of Stealthy..

Mike Rice was there and helped get things more organized..

They finally got smart and had us enter @ gate 3 so the trailers won't wind up blocking the road..

Someone was thinking..

We had fun and the Barracuda ran well..

Except when the rear brake caliper fell off in the pits..

Oh, and our belts were expired on Friday @ midnight.... Guess I missed that one..

Going out again Saturday the 8th.. Another AZ. S/ST race..
