E-Ticket OP master E Joined: Mar 2007 Posts: 2,525 Louisville, KY	Has anyone ever transported a pick up truck cab shell in the bed of a pick up and if so, how well did it fit?? For the 1994 - 2002 era truck.....will a 1994 - 2002 cab shell fit in the bed of the this same era of truck? The reason I ask is that we need to transport a cab and do not have enough trailer room left to set it on and I am wondering how far down (depth) in the bed will the truck cab fit in the bed?? I hauled a cab on a small 8x10 trailer. 6 hrs of body work to fix the crease in the cab corners. add a hitch and tow a trailer behind a trailer. the wheel tubs are going to tilt the cab anyway you put it and the cab is going to get some dents by the time you man handle it on/off with a lift or not. NOW a truck bed is another story, I have fliped a long bed upside down on another long bed truck and used c-clamps to hold the bed rails together for a 150 mile ride at 55 mph. maybe some 4x4 or 2x6 across the bed rails and sit the cab on top of the bed rails and strap it off. good luck

It didnt have doors or glass, strapped thru windshield and rear window openings. It rode fine. I loaded it with a biig forklift, forks were long enough to go thru both front and rear pallets. Unloaded it with a hoist. 84 D150 440/727 79 /6 swb D150 1964 A100 window van. Just because it has spark plug tubes doesn't mean it's a Hemi. If ya haven't been there, ya just wouldn't understand.

It sure looked like it would fit, but the wood was already there. Not sure of newer years,though. I wouldn't think they would be that much longer, front to rear. I guess you could just jack it up like I did. Traveled two hours at 60 mph with no trouble. The guy that loaded it thought it was funny enough to take a picture to show his brother. Both are members here. Maybe one of em will see this and chime in. I have mechanical Aptitude. I can screw up anything.

jimbob101 mopar J Joined: Jan 2006 Posts: 452 Coeur d Alene, Idaho	Yep! That's the way to do it with the 70s and 80s cabs in an 8ft bed! Running two pallets end to end, screwed together the cab will fit inbetween the wheel wells, and the tran tunnel hump goes rite over the wheelwell, so don't really need any dunnage underneath. Using 8ft fork extensions to run through the pallets works great. 6ft bed hauling, you have to raise it up just a bit..and tailgate down. I bet the 94 cabs would be pretty similar, if not, raise it will some 4x4 or 6x6s or whatever. 7799753-80scab_trailer.jpg (23 downloads)

I used to work for them in the Coleman plant and the one I got from you looks exactly the same as the ones I had to build... Works like a dream. The 6X6s didn't hurt either. Just a little taller. I have mechanical Aptitude. I can screw up anything.

Both have no rust out on them, some surface rust from peeling paint! The 80s box made into a trailer listed above is available with the trim in Wisconsin! Geez, pallets come from Lignetics Presto Logs in Sandpoint, Idaho, got a stack of them and they give them away for freeee!! Like the hardwood ones! : ) -J

Not so my friend. You can see the cab is in the truck. As jimbob101 said it fit right in there with a little something under it. As I said I traveled for 2 hours at 60 with no issues. I used the big ratchet straps to hold it in place. I unloaded my cab with a cheap engine hoist with no damage. Bolted it to the floor through the mounting holes with plates on top and bottom. Didn't even take the doors off. Went right in through the passenger door. It looked a little scary way up in the air but I drove the truck out from underneath and rolled the dolly it is still sitting on, under it. Maybe I would have messed it up if I knew it couldn't be done. I have mechanical Aptitude. I can screw up anything.

I wish this one would be that easy but one thing I forgot to mention is that the truck cab I am transporting is a "Quad Cab" so it wont be quite as easy as a standard cab. I may be taking a car hauler down there to pick this up and will still have room to load the car behind the cab........"barely"....... Should probably put the car on front and the cab in back. I have mechanical Aptitude. I can screw up anything.
