there are some spots where the black coating has came off and the metal is showing.can this gasket be cleaned up and reused with some copper spray?

I used 1 set of the Cometic gaskets and re-used them
1 time.. I didnt do anything except spray the copper
coat on them... if the area you are talking about
is thin than just spray them
EDIT
I should have said I cleaned them with brake cleaner
first then sprayed them

I reused mine with the coating coming off in spots. I drilled the rivets out wiped them down,and pulled off the little strings of loose coating. Sprayed all sides and reinstalled. 14.8-1, working fine.

i've reused a set of cometics 9 times. a lot of the coating had come off but they still worked with copper coat.

Same here. Clean them well and reuse them with copper coat.

Guys though it may work CopperCoat is not the best product for that application--we always use Holomar Spray on Cometics--it seals water like a bank vault. Coppercoat is for heat transfer and was best for old style metal head gaskets. Holomar spray is 10 times better sealer.

Copper Coat has been working well for us. 15+ to one compression and 4 digit horsepower and no issues..Just my experience
