The front sway bars I've seen attach to the strut rods. I've read that some of the very early 1970's sway bars attached directly to the control arm. (Not sure if this is correct?) I've never seen one attached directly to the control arm.
If a guy want's to run a 1.5" sway bar, it would probably be best to attach it directly to the control arm. Such a large sway bar pulling on the much smaller strut rods would probably cause the strut rods to flex and possibly bend.
The vans used the same or similar control arms as the trucks and attached the sway bar directly to the control arm. It may be possible to modify the van's sway bar mounting and make it work on a truck.

Factory bar is about 24 mm, that will be a major increase ...
I was eyeballing some other set ups at the u pull, some Ford vans have a pretty good size bar, and was looking at the way they (and GM trucks) attach to the lower arm, but at present the truck needs other stuff sooner ...
It takes gasoline to interest me.

My 72, I put on a 72 only sway bar. It bolts to the control arm under the bump stop. Yes the bump stop is different from a non sway bar truck.
The factory sway bar is more than adequate. It was a HUGE improvement to my truck.

I got one from a 92-93 D250, pretty much looks just the same except the links for the strut rod are made different than yours. On mine the same bushing will work in both locations. Did a little searching and found Moog problem solver bushings, poly instead of rubber, will interchange, and are much cheaper ...
I got two sets of K3170, IIRC they were $8.20 each set. Shipped, ebay. K3170 is two bushings. lots cheaper than the pretty red ones, these are blue.
That is 24 mm, other sizes may be K3171, 3172, etc, not sure. AC/Delco cross references them, are black, and also poly, but I get the idea perhaps softer? I can' tell. Local parts house had the AC Delco, so got them to try.

72 truck was the only yr to have the bar bolt to the LCA. all other dodge truck I have seen with a bar hook to the strut rods. I have a set of the wider pocketed LCAs from a 1 ton truck, the sway bar for it is a little thicker and bent a little more on the ends to relocate the end links to hook to strut rods.(the 1/2 bar hits LCA but it could be nothed/braced to allow it to fit without hitting.) IMHO,works just as goodhooke to strut rod, it sure firmed up the front of my truck..but I added the steering box frame support bracket at the same time. 340 shorty swaped a rear sway bar from a r/t dakota that bolt right onto the D model truck.

here are some pics of a sprint car/monster truck swaybar set up. big splined bar with splined clamp on arms. just need end links to fit. these are some LOONNGGG end links on this truck but it works rather well and the big KING shocks give a soft ride. the sway bar does a good job controling the body roll while in action. hope these pics give you a better idea of what I was talking about.
