I am having a situation where the car starts and runs fine most of the time, but sometimes once it's hot, it runs rough off idle and will sometimes quit and not restart. Then once it cools it's fine. Brand new orange box and conversion. No baseline to compare to since it's a brand new build. I suspect it's the box. I don't usually run the orange box but did this time. I'm still trouble shooting and will investigate it further tomorrow
once you get it sorted out you will find out eventually that you are not making the power you should , above 4000 rpm the box retards timing. This was probably not a problem with the original distributors included in the kits because they have roughly 30 degrees of mechanical, but it is definitely a problem with the current Mallory based distributor, especially if the end user limits the amount of mechanical advance is in the distributor.

I removed my orange box, had starting issues and idle quality as well as the power above 4k.The box you are talking about is the Renovator. I have it mounted to the firewall and I have had no problems with it so far. Very happy!

Orange box is as reliable as a 1990 Grand Prix. Keep your walking shoes in the car.
Not if you have a mid 90's or earlier, when they changed vendors that's when the problem started.

I had one in the early 80's , never left me stranded , but the accel dual point I swapped out for the electronic conversion ran better

There was a thread on here a few months ago on how to repair a dead orange box.
