I cant get the oil pump on because the main studs are too long. This happened on an old build and I think I just used a stock bolt but I dont want to do that this time. This is a fairly high hp combo this time. What is the best fix for this?

I've done it both ways... cut the cap and studs or just use the bolts in the rear
Used the stock bolts w/ the washers that came with the studs to try a spread the load a little better.
Yeah I always use the washers also

I cut the stud and used the 12 pt nut with no washer. A valve tip grinder really works good to make the end of the stud look good, but it isn't necessary.
x2 - and done it multiple times.
Well, art is art, isn't it? Still, on the other hand, water is water! And east is east and west is west and if you take cranberries and stew them like applesauce they taste much more like prunes than rhubarb does. Now, uh... Now you tell me what you know.

Thats exactly what I do now. I used to cut the cap about .180, now just dont use the washer. A small grind is sometimes necessary on the oil pump boss. I also finish it nice with the valve grinder and a nice little radius afterwards. The radius sometimes helps it clear the bottom of the pump better as well.
I had spoke to ARP about this before, just dont think its anything they will ever address. The key to NOT using a washer is to properly burnish the nut and " seat" in.I psoke to one of their engineers once about this, and the nut handles a significant load, close to what the washer will do ( and WAY more than we need to worry about here anyhow), but more important was that the underside of the nut, and the pump washer boss were brunished in so to speak.
