Anybody have any experience with these locking bolts for headers? Are they worth the almost $100 they cost. Alum.heads, TTIs. And header wrap, does it really keep the under hood temps down?

Are you talking about the stage 8 fasteners ??? Have'nt priced them in a while but they work great...And the header wrap does keep the underhood temps down but...Some wraps are tough to keep clean, and all wraps will prematurely rust the headers...

Yes I was looking at the stage 8 bolts. kinda high. These headers will be ceramic coated, will they still rust with the header wrap. I have a high dollar paint job and don't want the headers cooking the paint on the hood. Its a air grabber so I can't put a insulation pad on it.

I have the Stage8 on Ceramic Headers and I have had no problems at all. I use Permatex thread sealer on them also.I would not wrap the headers, ruined a set in 14 months. Being in a 440 in a D100 the heater hose lays about 1 inch from pipes and has not melted. I run around 3800 rpm at 60, 4.56 rear with 8.75x16.5 so everything gets heat under the hood.Summit carries the Stage8 for about $50 so just double check witch you need, 3/4 or 1".

Best advise for headers, leave as many mani studs in as you can, when you use header bolts use the long ones w/ some sealer, use good gaskets and do not crank the snot out of the bolts. As for wrap, it probably does keep temps down but it seems to quickly rust the headers out. I've never had an issue w/ excess heat under the hood. Just open the hood and in 5-10 minutes you're good. Manifolds hold the heat 20x as long as headers. I have no idea about the product, however I'd never pay $100 for a set of bolts, but then again I'd never pay $800 for a set of headers either.

Best gasket set would be the remflex brand... link In the normal price range/supplier category I've used Mr Gasket ultraseals with good results...

I have ceramic coated headers on my shorty. I heat or lack of it is remarkable. They really help the heat to go out the pipes and not radiate into the engine compartment..

I am truckless..

Agree with others. Ceramic coating will help keep heat down - no wrap required. I have header pipes very close to (what was) fresh paint and was concerned about possible bubbling but it never became an issue.

I prefer studs to bolts whether coolant is an issue or not and will second the use of Remflex gaskets. They will take care of any surface irregularities.

I use studs on my aluminum headed 440.They have been on now for 4 years and no problems. My kid runs them on his iron head 413 also.We both run Mr Gasket Ultras.Ive even pulled the headers and reused them and no leaks.Only place I use bolts are where studs wont fit.Rocky

""Who makes the best gaskets?""

I don't know about the best, but I replaced my TTi header gaskets with the Percy's Seal 4 Good and my leaks were fixed. The attached shows where the TTI gaskets (black) needed to be opened up (340) and the Percy's were already good. You can get the Percy's at your local Autozone.
