inboard springs?? How wide can you go without tubbing? Got pics?? Does setting the spring boxes in the frame weaken it, strengthen it or remain the same? (That is of course discounting poor workmanship factors such as inferior welds and/or materials)

I remember a tubbed 70 hemi challenger that ran around these parts back in 79-80. Wow I wonder what happened to that car? I bet that guy about hung himself when the values started to skyrocket because that car was cutup and stripped to be as lite as possible..

IF I went to the trouble, and thats a very big IF, It would be purely for looks... (I know, I know) I just love the look. Probably wouldn't tub but I would like to stuff the fattest tires I could get under it

I had a '72 Cuda I did with the Mancini kit and moved them inboard. After that, I fit a 10x28 slick or similar hoosier treaded tire. It was tight to the springs but I was lucky, I had just enough clearance and did not tub the car. Axle got new perches, and leafs got new hangers.

Stock axle width then?

With a set of Dr. Diff's offset spring hanger kits you can bolt a B body width rear end,
(2" narrower than a stock E body rear)under an E-body.
Complete bolt in deal, no cutting or welding.
With the correct backspacing this will get you a 15"x10" wheel under the car and a good size tire.
I'm shooting for a 325/50-15 drag radial.

Thanks for the input and replies folks! Gives me food for thought. I surprised that a b body has a narrower axle than a e body?? I always thought it would be as wide or wider being a larger car!

Remember to use a 68-70 B-body housing, as the 71-74 as wide as the E-body.

Yes, just used wheel back spacing to squeeze them in there. Cut the old perches off, and welded new ones on. Double check pinion angle when doing this...

Rear hangers look a little light for racing purposes...Need beefier ones if your going to run it.

Similar. My '70 Challenger was mini-tubbed (2.5") by the previous owner + leaf spring relocation kit. I installed Caltracs and their split mono-leaf springs. Rear tires are 315/60-15 BFG Drag Radials with A-body 8.75" rear axle. Wheels are AR500 15x10.
