I run a MSD Blaster 2 coil on my HEI conversion.
I have a M-body, and that what was recommended on Dippy.org

No issues whatsoever with it and it was $50-something dollars 3 years ago when I did the conversion.
Probably can pick up one at a swap meet cheaper if you scrounge around enough, or ebay, they are fairly common items.

Good luck with it!
CC.

Honestly I have no experience with that coil. I just bought the Blaster 2 and was done with it.
If the 3 is a update of the 2 then I don't see where you would have any issues...but that is purely speculation.

Good luck with it!

That main difference between a blaster two a nd three is the Blaster three is epoxy filled versus oil filled.

I did the HEI swap on my '68, and got a coil for a Ford F150 pick-up. I believe the model year was 2001.

1970 Plymouth 'Cuda #'s 440-6(block in storage)currently 493" 6 pack, Shaker, 5 speed Passon, 4.10's
1968 Plymouth Barracuda Convertible 408 Magnum EFI with 4 speed automatic overdrive, 3800 stall lock-up converter and 4.30's (closest thing to an automatic 5 speed going)

If that's the big yellow beast yes I ran one on a street 440 30 years ago with no ballast (didn't know any better at the time) & it ran good/never failed. Electronic dist/HEI module. A .8 ohm ballast is recommended with it but like all coil setups you have some leeway on how much pri current you let in

I would for the longevity & you could make back to back outings with and without the ballast to see the power difference just to see what you would gain & check the actual ohms as as a nominal .8 ohm unit may very likely have more than that & I wouldn't be afraid to go a bit less. With a 4 pin ECU I've wired ballasts in parallel to get the ohms down to where I wanted it to be & 2 "single" dual terminal ballasts will fit side by side in a 4 terminal connector (both plastic pieces) & just add another blue loop like the one of em already has

the msd 0.8 ohm

that one. EDIT but ohm it & see what you have. You dont want any more than .8 ohms. I have a black FBO round coil with a MP .25 ohm ballast & it runs flawless so far in a DD

A Chevy straight 6 (think 292 in a pickup truck) HEI coil would be a good choice. Also there are coils for '90s Mustangs that are quite good and you can get for cheap.
Neither of them use a ballast resistor.
I wouldn't run a coil that needed one, with that setup.
