would a valve body from a 65 727 in a 68 727 have any problems? i know the 66-7? is the same but what would happen with a pre 66? I hada 65 one in mine and the trans had no reverse or high gear, i pulled the valve body and did the press. tests and all worked right... could it be my valve body? I have a aftermakret one i think its turbo action i bought like 2 years ago for a 66 up style, just wondering if that could be my problem

I know there are about 10 different types of Valves bodies for the 727. I would double check tat all the prts line up with your transmission. It could be very likely your valve body is the problem. I know that A&A make one specifically for the earlier style. AL...

do you have the stamped number's off the side of the pan rail? that will indicate the year and application of the trans, also the valvebody will have a cast number inside a little sunburst, that should indicate the year of mfg. I was thinking that from 66 to 72 was interchangeable and 72 up to ?? was interchangable,,but I may be thinking 904's, hope this help's.

If you're using casting dates on the VB castings to determine the year, many '66 VB's will have '65 casting dates as will the other transmission components. There is no way a '65 VB will physically work in a '66 trans.
A '66 VB will work in a '68, if there is no Reverse or 3rd there is a problem with the front clutch.

If Reverse and 3rd are missing the problem is in the front clutch, the air check can be deceiving. The line pressure in Reverse is 3-4 times higher than in the forward gears so a faulty clutch can partly engage in Reverse but not 3rd.
