Cable vs. Mechanical Linkage?

Had it recommended by more than 1 person that I should ditch the cable throttle system on my max wedge crossrammed 64. They said for safety reasons - If somtheing happens and the throttle sticks, springs break, cable, snaps, etc. - then you can use your toe to manually pull the throttle back up.
Anyone use these or have pic's. Any manufacturers??

There were many issues with stuck throttles on linkages. The engine mount would break and the engine would torque over, pulling the throttle open more. Race cars are required to have redundant (2) throttle springs. You could even connect one to each carb and a third to the linkage, if you really want backup. I would worry about the guys suggesting this, not changing your setup...

I did it on my 63 Dodge crossram. Pain in the but. Bigger hole in the firewall to make it have the correct geometry with the stock pedal. I went back to the cable.

I think I am going to try putting in a fairly heavy spring on the pivot of the crossram linkage (nothing real heavey but just a good backup spring)
I don't want to add any springs or even heavier springs directly to the carb linkage itself - I was told it will prematurely wear the rods of the assembly - This came from Damon Kuhn so I believe it!

I'm under the impression it is required to have a toe strap (loop) on any mechanical throotle linkage, not required on cable linkage. I don't remember any requiements based on how fast the cars are to have mechanical throttle linkage  
I believe any car faster than 6.50(1/4 mile) must
have a mech linkage... but it might be any pro mod
funny car or top fueler.... cable... you cant lift
it with a toe loop

I actually had a jerk inspector at PIR make me install 2 additional springs - one on each of my carbs.......

If it has tight spots replace it with a good one that doesn't have sticky or tight spots
