From the start I built the Coronet convertable to drive. With 600+ ft.lb of torque, the 3.54 gear Dana seems to be geared too low. Even at part throttle a 1-2 gear change doesn't bring the rpms down at all. Instead, it feels like being rearended by a Grayhound bus! The 727 has a 9-1/2" 3,500 stall converter that is pretty calm at cruising speed. I think I could use an even lower gear, maybie as low as 3.0. Does anyone make a gear lower than 3.54 for the Dana 60?

I don't think so. There were a few higher gears made at one time for a certain application, but I do not think anything is currently made. Call DoctorDiff, he knows everything.

I have the same issue with my car. I have a 512 inch engine and a 5 speed Doug Nash. I need something around 3.0 rear gear. I haven't decided if I'm going to change the transmission, or swap in a 9 inch.

There was a 321 gear for a Dana back in the 80s but this rear end gear might not adapt into a sixties dana. You would have to do some internet research.

There was a 3.08 gear set for the 1990 D250 with a Cummins. They're pretty hard to find.

I know there were a few people on here who were using Dana 70 power loks and ring & pinions in 60 housing with very little modification.. so that would open up the possiblility of a 3.07 gear. Another option that may be doable with some creativity would be a Dana 61 3.07 gear into a 60 housing. I don't have any idea what the issues would be but it might be worth looking into. Even if these gears are no longer available from Dana they should be easier to find than a Dana 60 3.30 gear.

The D350s too (w/727 auto trans). IIRC the 3.08 gearset requires its own carrier so try to get everything rather than just the ring & pinion...

I think if you look on the center section you will see that it has 60-1 cast into it. Not quite the same as the standard Dana 60s I would like to find one of the Dana 60-1 out of a mid 1970 Ford 3/4 ton truck with the 360 V8 and the four speed truck trannys with the 3.30 gears in it, I would have it cut down for my Duster OP, how about using a lot taller tire on the rear to slow the cruise RPM down I did

careful! those are a special offset pinion case diff. huge pinion caused the offset, will not fit in a standard case. ck info on any "under 3.54" gearsets....the pinion may not fit!!! mike

That is why I put a Gear Venders in my 512 powered 69 Bee. I can cruse 70 mph at 2500 rpm.
