JLDUSTER OP member J Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 49 B-low, N.Y.	Hello everyone. Have a 360(.030)w/msd billet dist, coil, and digital 6 plus box. Rear mounted batt, 10.5/1 comp. running c12, w/demon 750 carb. While trying to boost wifes van w/my batt., put charger on my batt. Tried to start my car, batt low. Replaced batt. After numerous tries (pumping gas thinking it was flooded)still no start. Found faulty ign toggle & replaced. By now have tried to start 20x or so. Starter seems to be turning slower than normal. Voltage from 12.4 drops to 8 at cranking. Could cyl be full of gas? No gas smell, pulled plugs & spun over...still seemed a tad slow. Tested for spark ok. Checkedpickup in dist(579ohms).Any ideas? Appreciate any help or thoughts. Thank you.

I would suggest charging the battery, checking for spark by pulling one of the plug wires and install a spare plug in it and resting it on a bare portion of the engine or frame and note if there is a spark when cranking. JLDUSTER OP member J Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 49 B-low, N.Y.	Dads426-checked for spark already at coil and at plugs with spark plug tester..tested fine. Seems like engine not spinning fast enough. Only change was trying to boost wifes van...after that ign toggle was burned out and engine ground melted(replaced both). Also starter cable from trunk was warm to touch after repeated cranks.

MR_P_BODY Master Joined: Jun 2003 Posts: 52,972 Romeo MI	The starter sounds like its drawing alot of amps.. but if you have spark at the plugs it should still fire... have you pumped the throttle on the carb to see if your getting fuel(and smell it to make sure its gas)... if need be spray some starter fluid in it to see if it hits

While you'd like to see more than 8 w/ MSD I'm going to bet your gas is bad. Unless you used some gas stabilizer it's done. If you still have the stock or metal tank you probably have water in the mix too. I'd drain the tank and clean the line out. Do you thimk the starter is an issue? Car started fine before put away. Just concerned when push start button voltage drops to 8v. Thank you for your help! Thank you for your help! Yes I would think its drawing a LOT of amps... that is pulling power away from the ignition.. I would have a charger on it or jumper cables when trying to start it.... when you checked spark was it a nice blue color or yellow

Sounds like your starter is bad... drawing way too many amps and its slow cranking... like I said... that is pulling power from the ignition... you can do a draw test if you have a big amp gauge OR pull it off and have a parts store test it

I had a cut off switch go bad, it melted two of the battery termainals due to slow cranking on the starter Mr.Cab Racing and winning with Mopars since 1964. (Old F--t, Huh)
