I have a 68' b-body dana 60 with powerlock. Is it a direct swap of side gears to install 35 spline axles? Also where is the best place to get the side gears and axles if so?

yes, it should be a direct swap as far as I know...as for the best prices on side gear kits, check out broncograveyard.com. Was referred to me by a member on another forum and they had by far the best prices anywhere I had looked

I just went through this on a 1969 B body Dana 60, you have to replace the spider gears and the cups they ride in Dr Diff sells a kit for that :thumb I bought that kit and axles as well as his deluxe disc brake kit

As far as I know, I have the best prices on all the conversion parts.

New 35 spline power-lock side gears with clutch pack $125

New 35 spline B-body axle package with bearings and studs installed $300 pair

Please E-mail me if you are interested.

I just used Dr. Diff's 35 spline kit in the Dana 60 I built for my dad's road runner.

I've heard of this swap but have a question. Every 35 spline axle I've ever seen is usually an aftermarket axle, and has a much larger diameter than any stock type of 23 spline axle. If you do this swap, can you then, for example, put a 35 spline Moser or other aftermarket axle, that would normally go into a spool, in one of these Power Lok Sure grips, even with the larger diameter of the aftermarket 35 spline axle? If a Power Lok is advertized as a 35 spline unit is it safe to say that the swap has already been done on it?

Yep I did the same conversion, 35 spline aftermarket axles/side gears/clutch kit. Cass was very helpful and reasonable on cost.

AFAIK the axles will also fit into a 35 spline spool without a problem, but if you use the spool you have to use green bearings not the oe tapered rollers.

The increased OD of the 35 spline axle is past the splined area...oe 23 spline necks down past the splines, 35 spline aftermarket is about the same thickness all the way down to the wheel flange.

I take that back Cass, those are definitely the best prices. All I remember was at the time I found them cheaper....I stand corrected though

Cass is awesome to deal with! Got my 35 spline axles from him for a great price, and the product was excellent

I think I was out of the 35 spline internals at the time.

Do you still offer the 23 spline to 35 spline upgrade?

My question, why? I doubt they'll ever break on the street. Imagine how many of those rears went into all brands of race cars back in the day, with no changes.

I was thinking the same thing, how much power can the 23's take?

Not enough if your making decent power(500+) and the chassis hooks well shruggy I've broke stock axles with less shockGo for the 35 splines while you can still sell your old ones work twocents

About 4,500 foot pounds of momentary torque, the 35 spline almost is about 44# more. Somewhere around 6000. That is dump the clutch and sticky tires and break a shaft torque....

If you're racing a heavy car with 14" tires and dropping the hammer and dead hooking, then by all means go 35, no brainer. All else will suffice. Street car? Waste of money. "If" they brake replace with the 35 stuff. Chrysler did offer large diameter 23 spline axels (short and long) before the aftermarket axel guys got up and running.
