I have the B&M Aluminum pan on my 727. Supposed to hold 2-4 more quarts than stock I put in 8 quarts and the tailshaft seal is leaking fluid when the car runs . Do I have too much in the trans and this is causing the leak? The seal is new and I do not think I damaged it when installing the driveshaft!
Thanks Mike

the dipstick should still be used for the level

dipstick jimmie!!!
even overfilled, the tailshaft seal shouldn't leak. you sure it isn't the rear servo shaft o rings?

for what is the good life if not doing things thoughtfully?

Sounds about right for the fluid level (but check your dipstick....JIMMY!!! ). I would guess you have a problem with the seal. Does your yoke have a smooth surface?

I have both the B&M and the Mopar deep steel pans, I always run the fluid to the add mark on the stock dipstick when cold The tailshaft leak is not related to the amount of fluid in the pan

My solution is buy a new oil drain container at walmart and fix seal leak and reinstall till doesnt leak then not wasting all the new fluid.I had to do that after my complete tranny and engine build went south and had to repull engine and tranny.Oil I reused in daily drivers, tranny fluid will go back in new tranny using filtered funnel.I feel your pain although my pain is years old now.I also have the b&m pan.Dip stick level doesnt change,I am using royal purple tranny fluid, not wasting it.

trans will hold 8qts plus the converter for about 9 and add 3.5 for the deep pan...about 12 or until the Dip Stick shows full...leaking out means ya dont have a good seal around the shaft...

I always put a lite coat of grease on the tail shaft so as not to rip the seal

Put the rear axle up on jack stands only. Shouldn't lose fluid while changing seal.

Parts store says it has two seals to fit the 727. One with a short piece of rubber that goes around the yoke and another with a longer one. Which one is better? Also, someone said to use a piece of 2-1/2 in pvc pipe(id) with a cap on the end to tap the seal in place without causing any damage Any comments.
Thanks Guy's
Mike
