I am in the process of de-racing my dart sport, and wanted to change a few things around.

One of them is the camshaft. I really like the spec's of this camshaft, and has been proven time and time again. I just wondered if a newer cam exists.

Streetable is the key, along with the long 112 centerline makes for good idle and vacuum.

Or have I just sold myself on this cam?

The MP .528 is already ground on a 112 centerline, so I don't see what else modernizing it would do. It's not the most modern camshaft, but it's proven time and again both on the dyno and on the street.

Call Tim at Bullet racing cams he has a Purple Shaft replacement ground for a .904 lifter [Email]270@.020[/Email] [Email]243@.050[/Email] .548 lift with 1.5 rocker. I've run it in a 360 street car and really liked it. Pulls good from 2500 up and idles nice with decent vaccum. Went 11's with an 11" converter,3.91 gear 28" tire Non quench sb with factory heads in and a body. Mid 11's with a 4200 converter and 4.30 gears. Lash is .016"

I guess I am really trying to get my head around the term "modern" when it applies to camshafts for overhead valve pushrod engines. Seems to me a lot of the "modern" designs have a high rate of failure ? Now that the manufacturers can build overhead cam engines, why stick with Paleozoic technology ?

I didn't know that the Chevy small-block camshaft introduced in '55 was "kinda" a copy of the Porsche camshafts of the day, until a couple of years ago. And, the rest followed Chevy.

Two camshafts have impressed me - the Chrysler purple shaft jobs, and the Lunatis . Press on !

The .528 works great. It has a bunch of lash and is a fairly slow ramp but so what, it works. I'm not so sure that you want a modern lobe anyway for a daily driver if by modern lobe you mean tight lash, fast ramp, quick valve action, etc.

I had the .528 in a 360 and absolutely loved it. Great on the street and it pulled hard right from idle with only a modest converter.

Car has 8 point roll bar in it now, but over the winter will cut out the door bars, and horizontal bar in the hoop, and put back the rest of the interior again.

Sounds great, you'll really like it once you swap out the 4.56 gears for some 3.55's.

no need, it has a good centerline unlike the 484 and 509 so it will idle good and pull plenty of vacuum. Not to mention is much more reponsive at lower rpms. Your set-up should run good. try 3.91's

Just get it over with and throw in the 528 cam, you'll love it. My truck in my signature had a $300 440 in it with the 528 cam. It ran a 12.19 with a 1.595 60ft. time. 10" turboaction converter and 4.56 gears. It was picking the fronts of the ground 6-8" on launch. The cam make unreal torque and idles almost like a stocker. I can't see a downside on your application, you'll like the cam, now go throw it in. Dave

Well I got off my virtual wallet, I mean real wallet and ordered the camshaft.

The description is a little vague to say the least, but does this come with lifters. It does not say either way???

It comes with lifters. In fact the cam isn't even sold separately...it HAS to be bought with the lifters.
